Hi Hermank just seen your post on ballroom dancing 3 months ago. I had to give up 8 years ago as the old knees could not cope. I had an excellent dance partnership which lasted 10 years and we both enjoyed the same dances. But I had been dancing for 25 years, having learnt late in life.
Ballroom and Latin mainly but we also went to Milongas and danced the Argentinian way, most only think of the Tango, which we often got asked to dance for others to watch.
But the other Argentine dances like the Milongas (a quickstep) and the Tango Waltz were lovely dances and I do miss doing them. It is amazing how many different dances you learn on the way.
I remember going dancing in France, they are all crap dancers there!!!!! Same old steps whatever the music, wherever you went. But I have had Tango lessons in Paris, do not speak French so not so easy to follow. When I asked in terrible French for an explanation the lady teacher spoke in perfect English in reply.
We did do a demonstration of The Tango at the Wine museum in London when they were hosting an Argentine wine event, my partner was in the wine business herself.
The nice thing is that dancing couples were mixed and I have danced with another man, he was a good dancer (also a teacher) it is quite different.
The oddest time was when I was on holiday with our son on a converted (and extended) traditional fishing boat. It was off the coast of Phuket in the Andaman sea. I was chatting with a young lady who was engaged to another passenger and she was telling me that he kept putting off dancing lessons for their wedding. We talked about dances and she mentioned how much she liked the Argentine tango.
I said would she like a lesson? At this point she would have married me for the dancing!
So I showed her 2 or 3 steps and she was a natural, we got the captain to find some tango music the chairs and tables were pushed back and we danced for about half an hour. The "intended" was not a happy bunny, he was a surgeon and was more interested in the size of his camera. We were on a dive boat just 12 of us and 14 crew, luxury! I felt sorry for his next patient! (and his fiancee!).
There is no dance like an Argentine Tango!

I met my wife at the dancing school and now we are married for 51 years. On top of it it was love at first sight. Even today i like a good rock and roll putting my wife over my knee and hear hear touching the ground

Many thanks to all for the warm welcome. Been away from boat modelling for far too long but hoping, time permitting, to start being productive. Also hope that I can contribute in a small way to the pool of expertise which is very evident here.
It's a great facility which has assisted me by a member making available to me pdf plans for an old Graupner Bugsier 3 kit which had been damaged in storage and which I wanted to repair and complete.
Also enjoy seeing what others are doing and how readily assistance and advice is freely given.

Although I joined this site about five years ago, I had forgotten about it until fairly recently.
I can only say that that was my loss, there is a great deal of useful information here.
I live a few miles outside Oxford, England, and am an active member of the Oxford Model Boat Club.
On the subject again a group of model boaters has to become an entity also carry insurance and have a purpose. Otherwise you will be ignored or excluded. Even a local park with a 'Model boat pond' named as being there and controlled by the council. Some years ago they wanted us to leave, go away etc.
There is slight improvement now but little or no acceptance.
Our models are electric or yachts there is a speed limit but owning a house nearby has a price premium and the said owners do not want you there.
Some things here are unbelievable but money has a very loud voice.
It is the dearest place to live outside central London. Average house prices are 17 times average yearly earnings and triple that to live adjacent to the park!

Unfortunately it's the same with us. We have invasive critters on our pond that don't belong in our waters. Our fauna and previously living duck species are being displaced by them. And who is in favour of nature conservation? The Greens . . .
I have nothing against it, but when the motorway connection interrupted the inflow of the pond, nobody complained!
And today, on very hot days, the fire brigade has to fill fresh water tanks from hydrants.

On 8th November, together with the local fishermen's association, we will refresh our pond and remove the reeds so that it doesn't become overgrown. This is usually accompanied by sausage and bread and a beer.
We call it „the forest festival“
