This is my replica model of the Sirius Star designed by Max Coote of Ripmax, around 1954.
I found the drawings on the internet, and built the model from scratch. The boat is 41" and I have fitted an electric motor taken from a childs ride on car, 50 amp Chinese controller, 50mm prop, and 12 volt 7 amp lead acid battery.
It also has a Murco diesel fitted in the wheel house to give the boat a 50's appearance!

Hi i acquire this Admiral Barge some time be for the summer it needed a lot of work to be done I believe the model was built in 1950s .In pic 1 that's the condition she was in when i got her .The hull was in perfect condition under the paint work I replace the back deck and the deck in the middle where 2.5cc diesel engine goes in and now its all electric .in pic 2 is the finished project in perfect working condition .

Tortola plank (Balsa, tissued and dope) on frame, the keel and bulkheads from 10mm plywood. it has a small electric motor fitted but will have sails as well. Curlew from the Eezibuilt range. Material ply wood, Some of it from fruit crates.
The stand for Tortola made from 3 ply cardboard to my own design, stuck together with PVA glue.

Both models were 39 inches long and one of them ,Streamlinia was steam powered launch with a funnel to the aft of the main cabin and the other was a similar sized launch with a different superstructure and electric power.
I must say that Margaret is a masterpiece with traditional quality and detail and a power unit to match.
Does anyone know if Basset Lowke are still in business?

1/12 scale kit from Metcalf moulding the most difficult part on this model was the rudder section,you have got to get it right because once fitted the deck goes on and there is no turning back,it has 2 X 550 motors on 8.4 sails very well,not to fast but not to slow either,I sail at king Lear model boat club in leicester when I get a chance,lovely big lake all type of vessels on water,eg"

Mate , lovely to hear , I felt a bit poorly somewhat going at you as over the top, which was unwarranted. I ran my vessel the last two weekends with my mates at the Lake Illawarra channel ( see google maps?) South of Wollongong New South Wales Australia. Well we are just a bunch of old boaties , sick of clubs and fights and restrictions/ rules/ flat earthers. We have a lot of public look at us and the Council Ranger and staff lookeee see at times , but AS we are in zone of the Lake Channel HiGH/ LOW tidal mark any authorities do not want to know us. Here in OZ you can still boat as we have a lack of ponds in the land (not like your WW2 type ponds built in villages for water for vehicle fire tenders from FIRE and bombing raids). We have extensions on household insurance in OZ to cover liability and we tell any noisy race/race boat types to ".... off". We sail 1 meters etc thames barge, steam and electric and i/c and all big stuff we ALL run together on the water on the "pond", old sets 27 40 and 2.4 gig. And I spelt Peter Dimberline incorrectly with a T , so he will find out and knuckle me!! I do clean the engine bay with motor car degreaser spray and the decks cabin etc with household Kitchen cleaner and paper wipes. Such is good old Dulux house paint over the years. Fold down f'wrd mast , crane sits in a brass tube at the port engine bay ,rear mast sits on a peg at stern, rear stbd hatch opens, ALL to avoid knocks breakages of bits and over the years I have actually cast alloy bits in plaster-moulds and screwed down with brass. Just a standard red plastic graupner 40 mm prop (4mm thread?) this motor is a SC china copy ? of a OS40 I think , I just run her at the first plane to look nice, no rev head stuff as not necessary, wide turns, but goes so well in 2 inch to 4 inch chop no pounding/ bone shaking during winter runs as it HAS to perform SCALE on the pond rather than toy boat behaviour such as dig in and flick turns and she is heavy to handle waves! Just standard home made fuel 4 to 1 and my mates talked me out of Castor, so now I use synthetic lube . We share all things. Too much talkie . All the best and just fly out to join us good weather too .

Its powered by two MFA Torpedo 800 electric motors. power comes from two lead acid batteries, each rated at 12v 7Ah. Control is provided by two Mtroniks Tio ESC. The twin spade rudders are linked to one servo. Each ESC has its own receiver. I found that one receiver, using a Y lead, could not continuesly keep the two ESC supplied with a signal and they kept going into Failsafe mode alternately. I got round it by binding two receivers to the one transmitter. Within the engine compartment is an automatic bilge pump. Two probes detect if/when the water level rises to a certain amount in the bilge and activates the pump.
The model has working radar scanner , navigation lights, search light and blue flashing light.

I've not done a blog either. I have the RNLI drawings but as you know you only get the starboard side in detail. Also they cut everything off above the wheelhouse roof so no detail regarding radar or aerials.
My doors are tarted up originals as supplied by Aerokits. The hatches are from Marks Boat Bits.

My father was an Ex RAF Patrol boat pilot, hence the design was appropriate. The plans (Two sheets) are really well presented and easy to use. Each of the sheets provide ample detail to construct the basic model and if you are an experienced builder then these should suffice. However, a little research may be required to put the final touches together for the completed model (If you are a perfectionist like me). These plans are suitable for a novice as a first time project. This being my first attempt at a scale model. The boat once completed sails really well. I fitted mine out with electric motors, speed controller etc and when on the water a few heads turned! Fantastic plans GO FOR IT! Roy McCluskey

My father was an Ex RAF Patrol boat pilot, hence the design was appropriate. The plans (Two sheets) are really well presented and easy to use. Each of the sheets provide ample detail to construct the basic model and if you are an experienced builder then these should suffice. However, a little research may be required to put the final touches together for the completed model (If you are a perfectionist like me). These plans are suitable for a novice as a first time project. This being my first attempt at a scale model. The boat once completed sails really well. Just fancied doing something different. Started out with a deck mounted small camera and converted it on 27th Nov 2011 to an internally mounted Olympus C7070 camera. Fitted with 2 electric motors to give full manoeuvrability. Lots of small mods but not used during 2013. After lots of try with video decided to try single frame pictures. Decided to keep with still pictures. May 2014 started to rework boat to look more like a tug and decided to rename it - Owner AMD, Operated by ACME STUDIOS, Renamed LILIAN ROSE. Bought a new cheap camara from Tescos so if lost would only lose me £30. Also fitted bigger batteries. Then started selling pictures.

Purchased this from Ashton Model Shop at it closing down sale, what a sad time that was, been used using it man and boy, Airfix kits were 2 old shillings 10NP to 12s and 6d (62.5NP) Boeing Superfortess, mind you pocket money was 5/- (25p,) then when old enough got a Paperboys job 13 shillings a 6 day week (65NP), extra for Sunday. Back to the TID she sailed brilliantly all session at Ethrow Park. That is until run down by my Brother David's yacht, even though I'd moved it to what I thought was safe distant, power giving way to sail etc, when he tacked straight into her, tried to dodge but TID not the fastest of the mark. He swiftly got the rescue boat out and after two attempts we got it back, a quick rush to parks gents and a blow over of ESC and receiver with electric hand drier, soon had her running again, but still need a scrub to rid her of lake silt :-)

My scatch built 200th scale model of a KVG V class Battle Ship, the Duke of York. Based 0n 1/720th Revel plastic kit, 30 years old. First sail after a "refit" after being laid up in Garden shed for 10 or so years, fortunately was not as damaged as the Bismark store in same shed, as it was in a drier part of a leaky shed, just replaced some decking (with plastic sheet), added some missing small armament, lockers, Gun directors, Walrus Sea Plane etc I'd left of earlier model. She was original powered by 4 - 540 size motors, running 2mm Props (.50p each those where the days), upgraded her to run two on just twin props (4mm), leaving outer pair as dummies, may re connect at a later date. Brought her electrics upto 2.4 Ghz standard. Sailed well very steady on this her first sail after refit, at Ethrow Park.
