Hi Model boat enthusiasts,
This is a photo of almost completed 2 model boats I have almost completed. The Sea Queen 50 years old find. it was found in an attic in a kit. The kit was in a very poor state and most of the timberwork had to be glued back together or remade. I had no plans for it and had to source a copy from the Model Boat website. it is a very nice model. The pilot boat was scratch built and sails very nicely. I have been building boats for about 30years and have built over 25 boats, scratch built all of them. I have included photos of some of my boats.

I fist bought the plans when I was about 12. 50years later I decided to build the boat. it took me about 6months to build. The plans are the original Sufury but with a few changes. The cockpit is similar to that of a cigarette boat, extended the length and added a duck board. The power plant is 2100kv brushless moter, a 120amp speed control, 4mm flex sharftwith 2 11.4volt lipo batteries. in a straight line the boat is fast, but she really leans over when turning. Such is life is fun to drive.

Nice boat Kevin. I have a fibre glass SHG Surfury and a SHG Cigarette. There are some pics of them on here. Both now have electric Brushless motors and look realistic on the water.
I always fancied building a Surfury from the same plan, but the complex rounded hull looked too advanced for my skills or patience but maybe one day.

Sailing well in the sun and sparkling waters. A NZ Scow scratch built from plans. Unusual trading schooner based on those from the Great Lakes, USA.Actual vessel now restored as an example of an early NZ coastal trader.

So here’s my partly completed Riva Aquarama, to be named Ciao Bambina, a scratch build from plans, with laser cut marine ply as the base structure. I started her in April 2016 and got to the stage of balsa wood stringers as per the plans and got into a real pickle, breaking pretty much every strip and gave up after six days of struggle. I then focused on Plan B, which was Project 2, a smaller Riva Aquarama, and again a scratch build, for an event planned with friends at the end of April 2016. I’ll come back to Ciao Bambina once I have completed my Sea Commander and the smaller Riva I think. The stringers will be made with laminated 3mm strips Okichi or similar, which is the way the Sea Commander has been done, so I have learned something from the experience. Balsa doesn’t really work on a big stringer! I will update as I progress the project.

Have you tried soaking balsa in boiling water and pre forming it to shape ? (bend around pegs on a board) works well for hard wood as well. Shape, allow to dry, check and repeat as necessary. Be gentle with it and if the curve is tight, do it in stages.

Very realistic and nicely sailed model. The Solent Class were not fast afloat boats and had a max speed of about 9 knots so its nice to see a scale model sailing at a realistic speed.
Well done and thanks for sharing the build and final on the water video

I quite agree Dave, the MFA 850 motors at 4/5ths chat push her along at a very pleasing and hopefully realistic speed. Ive enjoyed this build and had alot of pleasure posting myn progress, hopefully its been enjoyed by all and if its given anyone else some inspiration, even better.
Please feel free to watch my Vosper RTTL build elsewhere! kind regards simon

This is my just finished Solent built from the original plans and templates which I bought on eBay. Like many others on this forum, I have come over from aircraft, so that knowledge gave me s head start building this. She will hopefully get her first outing next week weather permitting!

This was just finished by my brother after a four year build. He used plans from the original sternwheeler from Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. We grew up there so there is a connection. She is seven feet long and the hull is built entirely from popsicle sticks. She is bound for the museum in Whitehorse as a static display.

Brilliant 👍
Love the detailing, and on such a mammoth scale as well!
Popsicle sticks! You must have made a lot of children very happy👍😉
I've heard of others getting all family and friends to 'collect' coffee stirring sticks ...
Next model with zig million matchsticks perhaps ? 😉
Shame we will never see her under way but a superb memorial to her and her crews. Cheers Doug 😎

Old boat of my fathers built from scratch in balsa wood, and fibre glassed inside. Use to run a small diesel engine, I took over it and initially put an Orbit 805 motor in then later a better spec model car motor 545/550 water cooled. Finally I swapped it for a 1.25cc glow engine and this video demonstrates the speed with the glow engine. Was almost too fast for the hull, tight turns caused it to nose dive, and plane/wobble badly on its side. Great fun and cheap to run.

That video was from 9 years ago and that was the camera on the latest phone for the time. Since power boats are banned at our pool this is the only video i have of the model running, sorry.
Posted for posterity. MY other boat 26cc kawasaki engine was same time pre IC's ban.

I built this from a set of plans that i had sized up it measures 43"x12" & runs on a 1400kv Outrunner Motor / 40A esc / 11.1v 5000mah battery 3 bladed Brass 50mm M4 Prop
I was waiting delivery of a new camera so could not record the earlier stages of the build

Hi Lads
I have a Sea Commander with a D3548-1100kv,3S Lipo,60Amp ESC and a 2 blade 40mm CNC prop.
I bought a Precedent Huntsman 34" a few weeks ago and may be running a 3639-1100 or a 3648-1450 instead of the D3548 motor.
As for motor mounts the aluminium angle works well and I just epoxy glue it in place.

First and foremost I would like to thank everyone that answered my question about fiberglassing. Your help guided me through the process and I believe that it came out very good, but still needs more work to smooth out the resin and of course I will post more progress pictures later on.
The name of the tug is “STATIA RELAINT”.
This is one of a fleet of four vessels built by Samakona Yards in Spain.
I chose this one because of the stealth lines that has throughout the structure or just because I love how it looks.
I am an artist (painter), and we fall in love with colors and shapes, so maybe thats another reason why Im building this particular one.
I was lucky to find the plans and enlarge them to 33” approximately 1/32 scale.
This will be my FIRST scratch built even dough I have built others from kits, but never like the experts I see in this forum.
I will be open for questions, suggestions and criticism.
Thank You
Julian
From Sunny Miami.

Lovely finish on the varnish.
What scale is the LST? She looks huge!😲
