Pilot House Doors!

I worked on the Pilot House doors.
My eye's are not what they used to be!

Tiny mohogany strips used!
I did everything to keep my fingers.
From sticking to the doors!

Doors and frame will be stained.
In mohogany!

Supplies Arrived!

I had sent out for a scriber.
It took over 7 weeks to arrive from Japan!
Better late than never, I guess!

I also recieved my snips I had ordered as well!

I also recieved my order of EzeCoat!

I figure give the boat a good coat!
This should help to preserve her.
As she's mainly made of ply!

Thanks, for the advice Doug "RNinMunich"!👍

Hi Ed, when I was at the Warwick boat show I was talking to the guys on the Howes Model supplies stand about the F14, and they assured me that if you purchase the marine version in 2.4ghz everything works and even the expansion modules,
I will have to check with Futaba as I was going to order one for myself as a Christmas present.
    Thanks for the heads up.
    Cheers Colin.

    Hi Colin,

I was told by Glenn from Cornwall Model Boats.
That the folks in Germany tried everything.
To get the 2.4ghz unit to work.
    And it couldn't be done!
So, when you purchase the 2.4ghz controller.
    It can't be expanded!

This is why I'm converting back to 40mhz!

The Modules won't work with the 2.4ghz conversion!

If I were you I would get the 40mhz controller.
If your planning to expand the controller!

    Cheers, Ed

PS. If purchasing the 2.4ghz controller.
It gives you 8 channels that's all!

Futaba F-14 Conversion Problem!

I had purchased the Futaba F-14 Controller.
To convert it to dual throttle!
This was an easy step!

I had purchased the 2.4ghz controller!

But, I was having problems.
With the expansion modules!

No matter, what I did.
I couldn't get the expansion modules to work!

So, I sent the modules back to Cornwall Model Boats.
They in turn sent the modules back to Germany!

So, It turns out that the Modules do work!
WITH A 40MHZ CONTROLLER!

So, Now I have to take the Controller.
And convert it back to 40mhz from 2.4ghz!

So, the 2.4ghz controllers aren't compatible.
With the Expansion modules!

SO, IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE.
THE FUTABA F-14 PURCHASE THE 40MHZ UNIT!
THAT'S THE ONE TO PURCHASE.

As the 2.4ghz unit doesn't work.☹️
With the Expansion modules!

A very expensive lesson learned!
Now, I have to purchase.
A 40mhz reciever and a set of Crystals!
Then maybe the unit will work🤞!

    Hi Ed,
Going right back to the beginning of the tale of your F-14:-
I think the trouble started when you bought all the parts separately instead of as a complete System set, with RX, servo, batteries and all the modules, as I mentioned then when you complained that no batteries or RX were included!
If I understand Colin correctly he was advised that buying the Navy Set ensures that the add on modules function.
Scouring the Ripmax/Futaba documentation the only provisos I can find for the 2.4Gig upgrade are; an 8 channel TX and an 8 Channel RX, the 3008 which you have👍
The TX manuals also seem to indicate that both 40Meg and 2.4Gig can operate together!? Not sure I believe that! Switching between them without changing the wiring I might.
Don't have the add on module manuals yet though.
Maybe you can scan or photograph yours and post them?
    Cheers, Doug 😎

    Hi Doug,

I didn't know there was a marine version!

But, the controller I was sent.
    Just came with the receiver!
I had to purchase a separate servo!

Anyway, I took out the 2.4 TX!
    Reverted back to 40mhz!

    Cheers, Ed

Reverted back to 40mhz!

Today I reverted my controller.
Back to 40mhz which was simple to do.

I've been told to do this.
In order to have the controller work correctly!

As the Engineers in Germany said so!

Cornwall Model Boat most likely.
Will NOT be selling the 2.4ghz controller.
As it's not compatible with the expansion modules!

And Cornwall Model Boats were not told this fact!

    Hi Mouldbuilder,

Well at least I'll be able to control her.
If she goes to sink to the bottom of the lake!

    I think Not!

Any Advice On 40MHZ!

OK, I'll be Honest I'm not at all familar with 40Mhz!

This'll be my first time using that Band (Frequency)!

How prone is it to Interference?

What would be her maximum distance of operation?

What filters (Capasitors) are needed for the motors?

Any Advice Would Be Welcomed!

Thanks Doug. That will be very useful.
Just a note; is it not illegal to pee over the side of a Navy boat. What if the Fleet Admiral was just coming alongside on a barge.😁

Guess he might be a bit Pee'd Off!😠 😁😂 And the culprit would get one helluva rocket 💥
Unlikely to happen mid Atlantic though, anyway it's a Kriegsmarine boat not RN or MBWS Navy so I have no jurisdiction 😂🤣

Pilot House and Main Deck House Sealed!

Not much done lately!

Feeling a tad bit under the Weather!

But, was able to seal the Pilot House and the Main Deck House!

I sealed the wood using Eze-Kote!
By recommendation of Doug "RNinMunich"!

I used three coats on the pilot house.
And on the main deck house!

Sealing the wood has made the wood grain disappear!
I really don't want any wood grain to show!
And this will help protect the wood!

And three coat does the job!

I may put more coats, If it recommended!
So, what do you think Doug?
Should I put more coats?

I also put the Stanchions on!
There's a total of 26!
On the Main Deck House!
I just placed them no glue yet!
I just wanted to see what they look like!

It looks as if I'm going to have to solder them!
This is easier said than done!

But, for now I'm not worried about that task!
When, I come to it I'll worry then!

I'm not much for soldering!
So, If I can get away with gluing the Stanchions.
I will, I know soldering will make them last longer!

A few more bits and pieces!

A few more bits and pieces made up!

Main aft tow bit made and in position!
Forward tow bit also made up!
Anchor windlass base made up also!

Running boards have been made as well!
But, now in position as I plan to put LED's!

Slowly, slowly I'll get there!

PS. Main tow winch needs to be assembled!

Re: 16 Channel Expander!

Remember my 16 channel expansion module?

Well, a new one is being sent back to me.
Along with a 16 channel switch unit!

And a new 40mhz receiver and 40mhz crystal set!
Let's not forget some capacitors that I need!

At this rate, I could have purchased a real Tugboat!

It turns out the modules worked.
But, are being replaced with new ones!
Just in case!

All of this because I wanted.
Dual Throttles on a single stick!

But, in the long run her performance.
Will be exactly what I want!

Sad News!

I received my package from Cornwall Model Boats today!
In it was all the componants that where sent to me.
This was a 40 mhz receiver and some copasitors and 40mhz crystals!
And the 16 channel expander unit.
Along with the 16 channel switch unit as well!

After connecting everything together.
Switching everything to the on position.
Nothing worked the expander did absolutely nothing!

Have I mentioned I've spent a small fortune on this setup!

So, I have taken everything apart.
And have reverted back to 2.4ghz!

And will be sending everything back to CMB!

Not only that I took one look at that 40mhz antenna!
I guess it's OK for you Sub Guys!

But, not for me!

2.4ghz looks very inviting!

Maybe one day I'll find just the right Controller!
But, for now F-14 will be used!

Special Note:
The folks in Germany are stopping production.
On the F-14 and they will be discontinued!
As they have been found to be faulty!

I for one regret the purchase!
All this because I wanted Dual throttle sticks.........☹️

Ed, I’m sorry you’re having such a time with your transmitter, hope you get it figured out. The Smit’s looking good though, you should be proud how she’s coming along.
Get better buddy, my wife, daughter and I were all sick thru Christmas, that’s about as much fun as lemon juice in a paper cut!
