Staffros, we’re meeting at Josey Ranch in Carrollton this Sunday at 9am. You’re welcome to come if you want. The pond is at Josey Ranch Athletic Complex, 1440 Keller Springs Road.

Dougs right, the PTs of WWII were propeller driven. The PBR of the Vietnam era was a jet boat. They look a little similar. The first pic is of my Dumas PT212, the seconds a Deans Marine PBR.

"working a new one atm of a pt 109 boat, powerd by a jet motor like the origional design."
Sorry Staffros, but I think you've got your wires crossed somewhere🤔
The PT Boats were never fitted with water jets.
As far as I know water jets hadn't even been developed in the 1940s.
PTBs were driven by 3 conventional shafts and screws powered by Packard engines.
You may be thinking of the PBR (Patrol Boat River) as used in Vietnam.
Otherwise known as Pibber.
As I am restoring an old wooden PTB, and rebuilding as PT109, I have done considerable research on the PTBs. Mainly ELCOs like 109.
Here's a couple of basic links to illustrate what I mean.
PT Boat

PBR

There are plans and kits for the PBR on the market, and some examples of models here on this site.
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Martin. I think I still need to play with my CG on the PT. I’ve seen videos of others and they either act like mine or plane at a slightly steeper angle and handle better.
The two women fishing had a pretty good time watching us run, we did sailboats first the first hour we were out, the women fishing were itching to see the PT and some if Larry’s fleet run, so we obliged. Being former aircraft maintainers they asked some very intelligent, technical questions about the boats. It was a very good day😀

Hi Cash,
I am glad you had a nice day out with your boats.
As you say PT15 needs a little bit of tweaking.

I bet the two woman fishing did not have as good a day as you, with those boats wizzing around i bet they never caught any fish.

Had a small group of us meet at Josey Ranch this past Sunday. We ran from 900 am till noon-thirty or so. I took the PT15 out and she seems to handle a bit better, still wants to “dig in” when powers down a bit, I’m thinking move the C/G back a bit more and switch from nimh to lipo will put here where I want her. We had 2 older women fishing right next to us, we talked about fishing, aircraft, (one, maybe both worked for Delta as maintainers) boats and fishing..it was a very pleasant day!!

Hi Cash - glad to see you back in action - like the boats - noticed the social distancing did not apply to the boats themselves......... would have had a hissy fit here
Good to see a version of near normality.

Hi Cash,
I am glad to see you and Fred had some time on the water.
The little pusher Tug worked very well.
It is nice to see your boats in action after having been in lockdown for a while.
Glad you both had fun.

Haven’t posted much here lately, went back to work on the 1st, just now getting back to some sense or normalcy...even though most people who know me well would say I’m not quite normal..or not quite right, take your pick.🤣
Anyway, the day before I started work my buddy Fred and I ran boats at my Churches pond, aka the “Cottonwood Creek Baptist Test Pond” I made a little video of our day, hope y’all enjoy...and yes, Fred and I kept our distance from each other.😊

Nice boats, particularly like the Fire Chief and that speedboat. I envy you the weather too, all we've had this last few weekends have been gales which have ruined the chances of sailing.

Glad you have enough detail there Cash - from hard learned habit I normally scan parts before cutting out - (or removing from the sheet if pre-cut) - just in case bad things happen - that does make it much easier to replace items. Just remember to use a sharp blade & a steel rule with Styrene - easier to break off and clean up the edge afterwards than cut right through........
Apologies if I'm teaching granma' to suck eggs again.

Had one "nasty" years ago where the superstructure was found intact but the hull never came to light........and of course a lost superstructure later with another boat as well.......hence the scanning - plus foam flotation in the plastic replacement is always a good idea........especially as it disappears for a second time..........dont use a very strong rubber band on a plastic hook..........

Hi Cash - sorry about your problem with the superstructure. did you keep a record of the parts required for it ? If not maybe someone on this site or RC Groups has an unbuilt kit still and can scan the parts for you . Worth asking anyway. Could have helped with the little USCG but only have a RTR PT 15.

Thanks Larry for the pics. In retrospect, the loss of the PT15s superstructure was entirely on me. I did several things that, taken one at a time wouldn’t have been a big deal, but I really wanted her to “wake up” with the new motor and it caught up with me. However, on the bright side..I kept the plans. Going to try my hand at scratch building the superstructure later this year.

Again, thanks for the pics, good meeting you and looking forward to sailing with you😀

North Texas Shipwrights – 26 Jan 2020 – Towne Lake Park, McKinney, TX
Weather- Sky conditions- 1500 ft. Overcast/ Winds NW 3 – 4 kts/ Temp 16C/ Humid – 91%
Four Skippers braved the chilly, damp day to pilot their craft. The water conditions were relatively smooth with the exception of occasional wind ripples. The regatta went well with the exception of poor Cashrc….he had a superstructure failure on his new PT boat, and a motor failure on his Graupner (which was rescued – photo 9-10). However, his new mini- USCG 44MLB operated great! Bravo Zulu! I got my steam oscillator to run after sitting idle for a year, but did not put my steam launch in the water as my receiver battery was unreliable. I will be ready next time!

Do me a favor-pm or email me your cell phone number I’ll add you to our text group. Anything goes out to the group you’ll know about it. Or, I can pm you mine.

A few pics and vid from our run at the Josey Ranch sports complex,Carrollton Texas. This used to be the home port of the Shipwrights, and since some members live closer to here than Towne Lake in McKinney, we decided to run here as well, and alternate between the 2 lakes. It was very nice, good breeze for sailing, about 8 with puffs to 12 mph or so, and temps in the low 60s by noon. All in all a very good day!

About once a month so far, I work every 3rd Saturday, so I lay off from Church that Sunday and we’ll meet in MCKinney or Allen in the morning about 9 am. However, if we start growing, then I suspect we’ll start meeting to run boats more often.
Right now our monthly club meetin is at one of our members home, Larry Burkhalter. We were going to meet tonight but he called it on account of the stormy weather. Where are you located? We usually sent out a text blast about 3 days or so before we meet at the lake. We also have a thread on RC groups in the Dock Talk thread in the boats section.
