This is a first try at a simpler quieter smoke unit. I used the smoker box/element off the Heng Long tank/car smoker unit with a 40x40 5v fan (the fan being voltage controlled by a 5v UBEC and the lot being run by a 2s Lipo (with a y splitter for the fan UBEC and the element using JST leads. Doesn't smoke that well as I had broken then repaired the element previously, but the other one I have smokes a lot better, and has a better type of element (possibly a newer version) Some photos etc on the smoker discussion. Unit is almost silent (the noise you hear is the camera and outside noise, as the window was open)

Upgraded to Brushless 2x1100kva Turnigy motors, Scratch built 1/24 scale. I've included a photo of a real one, just in case somebody else tells me the colour scheme is wrong, East of Gibralta they where white. I'm sitting on the engine hatch nearest the camera, that was 1969

Hi Lads
I have a Sea Commander with a D3548-1100kv,3S Lipo,60Amp ESC and a 2 blade 40mm CNC prop.
I bought a Precedent Huntsman 34" a few weeks ago and may be running a 3639-1100 or a 3648-1450 instead of the D3548 motor.
As for motor mounts the aluminium angle works well and I just epoxy glue it in place.

HMS Triumph - Trafalgar Class Submarine at Albert Park Lake, Melbourne. There is a previous post with this submarine. it is scratch built and uses Engel piston tanks as its diving system. it has been in operation over 30 years. This is the first time it has carried a camera.

Neodym magnets are excellent for holding hatches, decks etc in place.
I have just sourced a selection from ebay and bought two 10x10mm. www.web-magnets.co.uk.I had not considered using as a rescue aid but these magnets are exceptionally strong and once attached are very difficult to remove so certainly up to rescuing a model. We sail many yachts and it can be difficult to find a safe attachment without causing damage.
I do hope you keep us posted on the automation of you features. On water shots are always good especially if they capture other models on the water.

Thanks Dave, since I just retired I have more time to realise some of these dreams. 😉 I already have the parts, will keep you posted on success or 'back to the drawing board'. Cheers Doug

Just fancied doing something different. Started out with a deck mounted small camera and converted it on 27th Nov 2011 to an internally mounted Olympus C7070 camera. Fitted with 2 electric motors to give full manoeuvrability. Lots of small mods but not used during 2013. After lots of try with video decided to try single frame pictures. Decided to keep with still pictures. May 2014 started to rework boat to look more like a tug and decided to rename it - Owner AMD, Operated by ACME STUDIOS, Renamed LILIAN ROSE. Bought a new cheap camara from Tescos so if lost would only lose me £30. Also fitted bigger batteries. Then started selling pictures.

My own design deep "V" hull with upper-works loosely to 1:15 scale replica of the Mitchell 31 boats previously used by various Hampshire constabularies in and around the Solent. The intention is to fit this model with a working, rotating, radar scanner using the servo motor and gearbox from an old video camera lens system; working lights including flashing blue police lights and a sound-alike "wee-wah" siren - just for the hell of it (and because I can)! Technical details: Hull length: 867mm. Construction: GRP layup with 1.5 and 3mm ply and balsa deck, cabin etc. Motor: MFA Torpedo 850. Propeller: X50mm plastic. Battery: 2 x three cell LiPo pack in parallel. Speed controller: Mtroniks Viper 25Amp. Radio: Hobby King 2.4GHz.

My son says this is way off a replica of the Solent police launches of that time: a) it moves too fast, b) it's not billowing black smoke, c) it's not making enough engine noise, and d) it's not towing half the Solent behind! 😀

Said not enough smoke!
Send it back for repairs!
I personally think the heating element is bad!
We shall see ….
