Hi Rowen, I am pretty sure that Mountfleet is still up and running despite the current problems.
Gary Steam Marine, the only way to go.

Models by Design closed some years ago.
Think Mountfleet Models took over many of their moulds and information.

Hi Doug I did see a copy of the inside pages of MBs and saw the builders name. I take it 41 years is too long to make enquiries to Luton Model boat Club about the model. I liked the hull as it was short and fat if you know what I mean. Not long and slender like they were in those days.

Hi Seaspray, you seem to be correct in your assessment of what the model is of.
See attached contents page for Model Boats August 1980.
The thick plottens!😁
Cheers, Doug 😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

Yep heard about the warts and all. I'll stick to scratch building. In my harbour there is a U.S.C.G Ports & Harbour boat I've just finished. Billings made a kit of plastic (Yuk) but I finished the scratch build model for a deceased modeler.

It looks a lot like the Billings Progress. May have used the plans and modified them for a bigger boat.

Me too
Billing is an acquired taste. I have four builds and loved them all despite the issues but they do clearly state the skill level required 🤣

Hi John Not giving up on the NMR just looking a head. It looked like the Nordkap after searches but with that big hull its a not. Also I noticed most trawlers have a similar top structure /shape. Just looked good to me. Had a look at the Portia and Gleaner, See what you mean Ta

hi there Martin

I have been through the 1986 Plans Handbook and through several drawings from the Model Shipwright magazines and I have gut feeling that this particular model is a 'made up' one. The reason being, if you have a look at the bridge, you will notice that the sides of the bridge are flat/square. This in a modern day trawler would be correct, but, this particular trawler looks to be from the 'Cod war era' round about the 60s/70s. Last of the large trawlers and the shape of the bridge just doesn't ring true. I may be a mile off the mark; but just a thought. The nearest one to that particular fishing vessel that you mention would be either 'Portia' or 'Gleaner'/ there is a 3rd possibility though and that is the ' oh when I find it I will tell ya ' :-)

Looking to see if any member has any information on this model. It was on the cover on Model Boats August 1980. I believe she was a middle distance trawler and called the Kinross. I am looking for a plan and have looked in Sarik Models but there is nothing there. It looks a a good model to build.
