Brass Pins

Doug Yes I have plenty now. The plywood on the princess years ago seemed to be so solid and the pins were thick. I built it using evo stick glue instead. Will drill holes for the pins. Have marked out the stringer notches. Hopefully start on to the building board tmo.

Hi HMS 😀,
Drilling the pilot holes will stop the pins bending Seaspray.
Essential when 'bashing' soft brass pins into hard wood 😉
So now you've got enough pins to build 10 ships 😀

More power to your pin drill 👍

Will Do Doug

While putting the new pins away I found these ones. The oldest packet is at the bottom from a Nor Star Wave Princess kit bought in 1971. They kept bending so I never used them

Cheers RN in Munich Do some practise on some on the small pieces of obechi lying around. Now I know all the dimensions of the brass pins I'll buy the correct pin pusher. The one I have is far too big

Pin pushers The one I have I think it is too big for a 7 mm pin

Good show Seaspray 👍 Happy pinning.
At the risk of teaching Granny to process raw eggs 😁
Drill pilot holes to avoid splitting the stringers or planks!
Mind your fingers with the tack hammer, I hold the pins with a small pair of fine point pliers to get 'em started.
Alternative; a Pin Pusher, Amati or similar 👍 There are loads on the Web.

For my plank on frame rowing boat I used a supplier on eBay. They have a range of sizes available.

Martin555 I believe there more to be in model shops or picture frame maker doll house builders. I know roughly the size its the type of heads and thickness needed. Ta

Brass Pins

Anybody know a good model shop in U.K or Scotland that I can buy brass pins for securing planks to frames. I have read that some modellers don't use them they just glue the plans on. The pins will be going thro 1.8 obechi planks into good 5 layer ply. The length of pins would be 6-8 mm Ta
