Hi Mould builder mmmm, that does look like a nice piece of kit, already own a digitaly adjustable soldering iron so l will keep mooching about on line and see what comes up.

I have been using this piece of kit. It is a fully adjustable soldering station along with a rework hot air blower and output voltage for testing which is also variable. It also has a USB output for good measure. It cost £62 and has proved money well spent. I am not sure if the voltage output is regulated though.

I may be barking up the wrong tree,but have you thought about a model railway controller for this purpose.
240 volts in and variable DC out.
I used to use my old layout controller for bench testing until it gave up the ghost.
There are numerous and variable ones on EBay for next to no cost.

yep so many to choose from £30 up to thousands all seem to be coming in from china with almost same spec just different prices, i,ll hang fire for a bit and see what else members have to contribute. I was looking at the 30v models at around the £50 odd mark that should cover most of the modelling motors l use.

There are so many options it is difficult to know where to start.

From what you said, I’m assuming something that can give you up to 15v at a couple of amps would be suitable. That won’t power a big brushless motor, but would cover any servo, lighting, etc testing. Having a voltage readout is very useful so you can easily set the output voltage.

Here’s one I found earlier..

I have a bench supply I built from a salvaged desktop PC power unit and a Chinese voltage adjuster. Made a plywood box to house it all. Not sure it was worth the effort when you can buy a complete unit for £30
