Hi Peter.
It looks as though they have been taught how to read drawings and instructions.
Don't let on to them that you haven't LOL!!!

Am I losing my grip?

I have a powerful magnet and a brass magnet and even a stick with double sided tape at one end but I'm blowed if I can remember where I put them.

Thanks Doug. I thought I was going mad when I read about Brass attracting to a magnet on Google. I have been playing with all metals at work for 50 years and thought I couldn`t be that wrong about magnetism.😁

I have an idea. The Brass Hammer Award, given each year to whom makes the seemingly impossible happen.......😮

Hi Pete,
Ref "Edited myself. The above is rubbish. Apparently, with an extremely powerful magnet, Brass will attract. You learn something every day. "
That only works if the magnet is very powerful and moving.
The movement creates a current and hence an electromagnetic field around the brass, hence the attraction. The 'Lenz' Effect and basis of electric motors.
Brass is inherently not magnetic.

Thank you Martin! You folks are certainly friendly and I might add trusting if you allow ToraDog to wander around off-leash. 😊

I can vouch for the fact that BlackShoe lost his grip a looong time ago, just like several us on this side of the pond. 😁

Am I losing my grip?

Being the "New Guy" to this outfit, it's heartening to discover I'm not the only one experiencing this phenomenon.
When something escapes my faulty grip my first thought is "Drat!" (only maybe more severe,) my second thought is "Would it take less time to build another, or try to find this one?"
Usually, when I go searching I discover the part I didn't find last time I dropped something.

The only brass magnet I have heard of is a rod with a piece of double sided sticky tape on the end. The material has to be ferrous for a magnet to work. Some high grade stainless steels are also anti-magnetic.

The Steampunk Pike and Evolution is just two of the odd things.

Don't decry the Brass Magnet, I have one. Many years ago I was a member of an august organisation called the Odd Boat Society. Membership was limited to people who owned odd boats. The principle award of the society was 'The Brass Magnet' and it was awarded to members doing odd things in odd boats. I received mine for circumnavigating a circular island in a circular boat.

I see a a lot of grovelling in your future Doug😂. Freshly cleaned bagless vac it a good micro parts hunter, - or a large bib with one end velcro'd to the workbench to catch the bits😁😂 -also handy for catching dribble, false teeth,-(when you spit the dummy),- or tears of frustration when things go wrong😊

My carpet monster has a particular taste for brass etch parts.
Magnet not much use!🤔

I'm thinking of getting some roller-blader knee pads and a bigger magnifying glass!
Happy hunting Guys and Gal,

Having the item drop is only the first part of the issue getting back up after searching and finding the item is the hardest part.Age is a wonderful thing if only my knees were willing to agree.

This is something I think happens to most of us. It's so easy to drop a tiny piece, a washer, a nut or something and it's gone and if it's on patterned carpet, as in our case, you've definitely had it.

Geoff,
You are definitely not alone with this situation.
I have spent a lot of time on my knees wrestling with the carpet monster trying to rescue parts. LOL!!

I know this has nothing to do with model boats but how long have you been playing the Ukulele.

Am I losing my grip?

I have found over the past year or so that I have been dropping pieces of work in the workshop, I have it in my hand and then suddenly it is on the floor. In other areas my digits seem to work as required while playing keyboard and ukulele, but is just that things seem to be slipping through my fingers occasionally. and I finish up doing a finger tip search through my tired workshop carpet. I will soon be able to get a job with the local constabulary. I am not unduly worried by this, it is not a constant problem but wonder if it happens as age progresses.
