Lipo Alarms

Hi Eric,
Yeah, I'd also noticed that the HK site has been a little erratic and very slow lately🤔
And Yeah again! I know those alarm gizmos.
As they are cheap as chips I bought a handful of 'em a while back.
I mostly use them for quick checks of LiPo charge state.
BUT! You can ONLY use 'em for LiPos. So doesn't fit your bill🤔
They are not programmed for any other type.
So if you manage to plug in a NiMh or SLA (the gadget is only designed to accept LiPo balance plugs) it'll probably assume it's the nearest LiPo voltage and give you a false reading, may even bleep at you even if the battery is fully charged.

That's why I recommended the other one for your purpose (and why I bought one!) You loop your ESC / Motor supply wires through it at one end, any battery type, and it measures voltage and current ON LOAD. If you use a LiPo you can plug the balance cable in the other end and it will measure the cell voltages as well😊
Cheers, Doug 😎

Lipo Alarms

Hi Doug, many thanks for this, I'm having probs registering with Hobbyking's website at the mo (on a chat as we speak!) but appreciate the link. I have a watt meter already, here is the type of thing I was thinking of: https://ebay.us/clSNTc
Any experience of using these?
Thanks,
Eric

That looks very interesting Doug. Might have to get one of those.
I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.

Funny you should ask this just now Eric,
I recently ran across this little fella on HobbyKing EU (Holland warehouse😉) and mine just arrived today😊
https://hobbyking.com/en_us/on-board-multiple-function-watt-meter-6v-26v-1a-90a.html
They call it a Watt Meter but it isn't really.
It measures current and voltage, records the values and includes a settable low voltage buzzer alarm, which is just what you want right?

One of the reviews on the HK site attached below.
I agree with him about the Chinglish menus but it's intuitive anyway.
He's wrong though that the current / voltage curves are not recorded.
He just hasn't found it yet. I just ran across a curve browsing mode for this😉
Others report that they found it useful for sizing props and ESCs👍
Will report further when I've thoroughly tested it.
Cheers, Doug 😎

"No more guess work when it comes to measuring current draw.
This nifty device has pre-installed XT60 connectors, which is convenient if you are already using XT60's. However, it also comes with a couple Traxxas T connector adapters in the box.
Can read current amps and peak amps, as well as min voltage.
Has voltage meter so you can plug your LiPo balance plug into it and read each individual cell voltage.
Also has a low voltage alarm with configurable min voltage settings.
Has a live line graph that looks like a heartbeat monitor. You can see the line jump up when there is a spike in current. Unfortunately i don't think there is a way to record the line graph, so you have to keep watching it live. It does however record peak current and min voltage.
I could have gotten a lower rated ESC for my motors if I knew how little current the motors draw. This thing could save you money in that regard.
Has a couple weird chinglish menu entries"

Lipo Alarms

Hi all, thinking of getting an alarm to fit to various boats to warn of low voltage, any suggestions pls? I use lipos as well as Nimhs (and the odd lead-acid) so an interchangeable one would be useful..
Many thanks in advance!
