From the description of the contents of your house, may I politely ask if you have a wife?

Cheers, Nerys

Hi Doug,
My conservatory is full of models, some from my Dad's Estate, I have 1 bedroom as a workshop and junk room.
The lounge currently has a real boat in it for final work, as it was given to me, but needed the complete transom to be removed, not easy as the rubber was vulcanized though a number of holes in the wooden transom, luckily it was so rotten, manage to break it up. Then added new transom,(Nasty two pack rubber glue) some folding wheels, nav lights, its 12ft long.
Now working on a control box, for electricals,
Roy

I thought the new issue of Model Boats Magazine was quite a good effort. The new editor has made an effort to give us a good selection of interesting articles. It bodes well for the future. Keep up the good work.
Doug, I remember when I first started buying yachting magazines, I was paying 1/6 each for 'Motor Boat and Yachting' and 'Yachting World', a big lump out of a 13 year old's pocketmoney.
On the question of TV, I think Channel 37 could easily be renamed the 'Alaska Channel'.

Cheers, Nerys

Collected my copy from the news agents today, will have to read it after the grandchildren go home on Sunday evening.
Had a quick look at the plan, looks like its one I would like to build. With the help of my wife, who has a steadier hand for detail work.
Cheers Colin.

Not a yachtie myself but I can always appreciate good skilled work.
BTW: can you sit down anywhere in your house now? 😮😁

Re need so many channels, when most are showing repeats of repeats.

Colin, you guys aren't alone in that, exactly the same way down here. Must have seen star wars a hundred times and Friends must have had about 50 re runs etc etc. All there is now is cheap American (sorry cash and others) house remodeling programs, Stacey Dooley making a nuisance of herself 'staying over' and truckloads of similar associated garbage.

Bought a big satellite dish a few years back for free TV and really needn't have bothered. Even our news is c..p, just dragged off the internet (usually have seen it before it's on the 'news' Reporters are just lazy sods these days and make zero effort to find real news. The worst thing I find is that sport is now classed as 'news' so we have to put up with players moaning about sore pinkeys etc in "news' time, then the last half hour is more sport. Surely there is more important stuff happening in the world.

TV has been dying world wide due to streaming movies etc, and with all the 'smart' TVs now, people can watch anything through the internet, play games etc, so no one wants to watch cheap old re runs any more, (even thinking of buying one myself)

RE -I used to augment my pocket money

And you think that were bad? cop this,- The red area was a girl/friend of mines parents farm till the big mall was built in the late 80s early 90s and the orange area was our flying club. All you could see was farmland till then (and that's only 10% of that area, rest shown zoomed out) Thousands of houses, factories etc there now. It's happening like that everywhere in NZ and it's a bit of a worry as thousands of smaller dairy farms etc are disappearing. My sons' mates' parents have sold their farm (pics 1+2) in Silverdale about 5kms from where I live, for development, ($$$$$$$$$m) and I think others there have gone as well.

Nothing but houses up our way now. Also last year, there was almost a house a night going past being re located up north. 10 yrs ago I when I bought my place, I thought,'what a dead hole Orewa is" not any longer! I have trouble getting out of my once quiet road now😠 Only during lockdown did it look like it used to!

Hi Doug,
Did finish a restoration of an RC Yacht, remade sails but did not sail well, so a second set made, still have not tested them.
My Dad has left me 4 yachts 3x marbleheads, a 1930-60s pond yacht (bread& Butter) and R36 boat and sails by Graham Bantock.

Thanks for asking!

Hi Doug,
Ref:- Send 'em a Rolex alarm watch instead of the next license fee.

The way it is going the Rolex would be cheeper than the license fee LOL!!!

Quite agree Nerys, I have an app on my phone called PLUTO TV and the choice of free programs on it are better than on normal free view and freesat. Why do we need so many channels, when most are showing repeats of repeats.
Moan over, grandchildren arriving shortly to stay till Sunday, so no peace in our hamlet for three days.
Cheers Colin.

Interesting points about TV, Pete. A few weeks ago I signed up for 'Now' TV and still couldn't find anything to watch, so I've unsubscribed after making two monthly payments..

Cheers, Nerys

Half crowns, and especially crowns, in reasonable condition are worth quite a few bob these days Colin.

"... my copy was in the newsagents awaiting collection. "
Wot? Wot ever happened to paper boys?
How things have changed🤔
I used to augment my pocket money / model building funds as a paper boy.
When dad became Station Warrant Officer at RAF Locking and got a nice house on the station, thus moving from the hired house in the then tiny village of Worle NEAR (🙄) Weston Super-Mare, I cycled/trekked several miles just to get to the newsagents in Ebdon Road and get started!
Unthinkable for today's teenagers who've grown up with smartphones, Hotel Mum and Mum's Taxis🙄
Attached pic shows Ebdon Road Worle now. House I lived in is in the centre.
NONE of the roads and houses round-about existed then.
The open fields behind the house were an apple orchard then.
The brown grass in front of the house was Dad's beautiful rose garden.🤔
I remember watching the 'breaking news' of JFK's assassination in the lounge at the front of that house!
It's true what 'they' say - "One should NEVER go back!"🤔

Totally agree with you Doug, all the repeats on TV, thank goodness I can retire to the modelling room, wonder if I can get a refund off the BBC, for all the bits that are showing now, that I have seen before, they can't even get the News at 10 on at the right time, always a couple of minutes late.😠

"I was just about to subscribe to the digital, ..."
Hi Joe,
I'm thinking of switching to the digital+print option.
Means you pay a few quid (er bucks😁) for the plans in effect but more reliable than the post.
In the old days, before MB mag farmed out the subscriptions to Pocketmag, I could easily print any page or even download the whole mag as a pdf file. Alas alack, not any more😭
If you have a decent scanner with your PC go for the print only option.
I have an A3 scanner so I may also do that. Even an A4 scanner is enough for a single page.
A3 is good though when something (pics/plan etc) is printed as a two page spread.
The only real advantage then of the digital option is that you get it a few days earlier.🙄
I've come to the conclusion that the cons outweigh the pros for the digital option.
Cheers, Doug 😎

I was just about to subscribe to the digital, but won't bother as the free plan is one of the best parts of the mag. ☹️

Telephoned MBM today, to enquire as to the delivery of the promised August magazine due out 31st July,
I was told that all magazines for the issue of August would be sent out on the 31st July, I mentioned that usually subscribers get there's a few days earlier, and was told not this time! but it may happen for the issue in September, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.👎
