Actually, I was thinking that you would be towing a couple of your boats. Reminds me of something I saw at a Waterways show some years ago. An outboard dinghy towing a string of toy dinghies and each one had a teddy bear seated in it. It was the annual outing of the Boating Bears Club!
Cheers, Nerys

Great location Nerys - but there is a small current in the river - trip is 1.5+ hour each way - none of my boats have the speed/endurance and there are some very bad snags/ weeding along the way . An I.C powered boat would probably be better as a lead boat - sadly no longer have any engines............ only a water cooled head for an old version OS10/20...........
The pontoon boat we were on is powered by a 40hp 4 stroke Outboard - that has to work hard at times.
Hoping one of my friends & I will be sharing a full size boat sometime soon - then it would be easy to run my models while he fishes..........

That looks like the ideal location for a good old banyan party. So pleased you all enjoyed it. Pity you didn't take a couple of your boats along though.

Wow - April edition of Model Boats arrived in our postbox yesterday - just in time for my birthday on Saturday . Now all I need is the May copy !. Don't expect the August edition until next month at the earliest although I was assured by Times Media it and the September edition have definitely been posted !

Right Ian - highest price for a local magazine is about R95 - MB in the region of R150 if as you say - you could find one! Way beyond affordable. The PO is in a shambles as they have no funds - wanted a local PO Box long before lockdown - could not supply as there were no locks or keys - plus the fact half the box doors were rusted through or fallen off - no money for maintenance.......
The staff here are good and do their best - but the problem stems from the top and a Govt more concerned with a dead airline.

3 Month Delay at JIMC OR Tambo!
Funnily enough bought some parts on Bangood at track and trace mail rate They came via a logistics company in 10 Days! No extra charge. The South African Post Office is a Joke. Can't afford the shelf price even if I find one!

Are you sure about that Jacko?
At least they must have been compiled 'cos I received both issues promptly in my Digital Library. It's June & July that are missing, and yes my subscription was extended.

April and May where never printed (lockdown) your account if you subscribe will be extended by 2 issues
Quite right - still awaiting the Apr & May issues! Postnet here tell me they have had one bit of mail since lockdown eased . Pity they dont pour some funds into the Post office instead of the billions into SAA .

Ian, won't work here in SA anyway as our postal service has been rubbished. Presume there is a big pile of mail sitting on the floor at the central sorting depot here in Joburg somewhere! MB price at rack rate here makes one's eye water!

Trouble is it's for UK Only. Overseas subscription only at normal price!
Only old in years not mind or soul.
Hi Doug.
Thanks for the advice on the digital subscriptions.
Free plans aren't something I desperately need but I'll see how how I feel about renewal after the 3 'promo' issues.
Cheers.

Rob,
If you have any interest in the free plans DO NOT GO DIGITAL ONLY!
Cos you won't get the plans😭
I made that mistake when Pocketmags took over the subscriptions.
Since then I don't get the plans and can no longer download the mag as pdf, or even print pages from the reader. If I try it comes out ginormous so I only get the top left 1/4 of the page printed over the whole page.
OK I thought; print on A3; Ha Ha! Same thing just even bigger (x1.4)☹️
Be warned! Go for the print version, that's what I'm doing at next renewal.
Pages of interest I can scan and print in A4 or A3 (two page spread) if I need to.
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Graham.
OK...I found the offer on the modelboats.co.uk site in the header after refreshing the page a few times and have signed up for 3 months of digital & print for £1 👍😁
After the three "promotional" issues the direct debit ramps up to £14 per quarter so I'll need to decide if I want to continue with electronic & print for £14 or drop down to electronic only for £7.10 or cancel the DD altogether.
Thanks for the 'Heads Up' on the offer.

Unfortunately I have a years subscription, so the offer isn't any good for me.
Alan,
That's where I was looking, and Rob I guess. It seems that, when you go to the magazine home page the banner ad at the top of the page is randomly selected from different options. If the special mag offer isn't there, just refresh the page in your browser. After one or more attempts, the offer comes up.
Attached is the small print from the magazine.

Rob,
Go to the Model Boats website and it is there, don't use the magazine website which directs you to Pocketmags.
The offer is for direct debit on either debit or credit card but not a lot of info of terms, etc.

Rob,
It was on the front page of their website a couple of days ago, as I took advantage of the offer 👍 but now it has disappeared 👎. The offer is valid until 10/09/2020 according to page 70 of the magazine. There is another weblink in the mag:
mb.secureorder.co.uk/MB/SUMMER20
but that doesn’t show the special offer now.
I guess they were oversubscribed and are now trying to avoid more orders.☹️

Hi Graham.
Sounds too good to be true.....perhaps it is....... 'cos I can't find the offer page you mention, can you post the URL please.
Cheers.
Rob.
Cheers Graham, I will have a look.
For years I had it on subscription and they did some good offers with it like a Planet 2.4 Gus transmitter, soldering iron, etc.

The August edition of Model Boats magazine was in our local Tesco stores today - only one copy though. I had a look and the content looked OK and I thought about treating myself to it as a holiday read but at almost £6 for a magazine decided against - 'cheapskate' I know ! That money could be more wisely spent on more bits for my boats.😁

I must admit I would be a little doubtful about flying a seaplane or something from our lake, I'd be a bit worried about the number of the public usually wandering around and would hate the plane to fall on someone. I have seen a couple of RTR planes with optional floats and I wouldn't mind having one of those just taxiing up and down.
Cheers, Nerys

Doug, when I say mobile command and control centre I mean a vehicle in which I can sit in comfort and issue commands and controls to the boat I happen to be sailing at that time. The other use of course would be at one of our open days, when members could command a sausage roll from us and we can control the output from the oven.
As it happens, we didn't buy it, dodgy mechanical condition, but no doubt another will offer itself before long.
Cheers, Nerys

"a mobile command and control centre we are contemplating buying."
By Jove! There's adventurous for you!😮 Can't wait for the report.
If you need any help designing / installing the appropriate C3I system I'm your man😁
I guess that would mean that Alice must postpone her milk float conversion?🤔

"it is something I fancy trying but have no knowledge of model aeronautics."
Before you lash out on such a model Nerys try to link up with a friendly and experienced flyer near you who can give you some basic training. Otherwise the whole exercise could end in bitter discouraging disappointment😭
My Catalina model has two pretty powerful brushless motors.
I still haven't trusted myself to lift it off the lake. Taxiing trials only.
No friendly fliers near me🤔
I'm gonna try and post here a video of a similar twin motor plane to my cat flying off my local boating lake in the Ostpark in Munich. Sorry, didn't work, site server bounced it😭
I'll have to try another way!
Cheers, Doug 😎

Now you know why Gisela has her own pad Nerys!😮😉
'This place ain't big enough for you me an' all dem boats an' stuff!'
Now she has a roof top flat with lots of light for her oil painting and two terraces, which she has filled with all sorts of wonderful colourful plants😊
Meanwhile, my shipyard has spread through the whole maisonette😁
Currently my dining table is half full of chargers and batteries!😌
At least you and Alice, our revered Annie Oakley of the tool box, have space outside to extend your shipyard and RF Monitoring Station👍 I'm jealous of that🤔

Many thanks Doug, The Catalina sounds interesting. I saw one at an airshow some years ago and was quite impressed by the size. Also years ago, knew an American ex pat, now deceased, who had flown as a gunner in one during the Korean war. He raved about them.
Cheers. Nerys

Hi Nerys,
My model aeronautics knowledge is also pretty limited!
I switched to model boats after my first two attempts (from Kiel-craft kits) ended as matchwood and my third attempt, own design glider cut from 3 planks of 36x4x1/4 inch balsa flew so well that on it's maiden flight it caught a thermal off Hemswell Cliff in Lincolnshire and spiralled higher and higher and higher until it disappeared in the direction of Denmark or Norway☹️ Often wonder where it came down!
After that, early sixties, I started building my 1/72 H class destroyer HMS Hotspur. Scaled up from the 1/600 Airfix kit!
One of the flying boats is a PBY Catalina, ca 1,5m wingspan.
Paul, pm_devlin, here on the site put me on to the Cat model some time ago.
He has posted some vids of his flying on the site, under the title of 'not quite a boat' or summat like that!
The other is a kind of fantasy model you can either drive as a boat or fit wings, ca 1m span, and fly it, if you have the bottle to try!
Both are of polystyrene foam construction and feather light, that in itself worries me re stability in anything more than a balmy breeze😮
I'll dig out some pics and details tomorrow, er ... later today!
Cheers, Doug 😎

I must admit that my shipyard takes up a large portion of our lounge as well as a few scattered boats in other rooms. Some years ago I had a penchant for building eight foot dinghies in my lounge which was also the home for two coracles, one Welsh and one Scottish. As I see it, one attends to one's hobbies in the most convenient place.

"A good wife indeed, as is mine, to put up with our hobbies and collections. "
Doesn't Caroline have her own collections of Doll's Houses and vintage model vehicles Colin?
So how can she complain about 'a few boats'?😁
Thought you'd built your own Industrial Unit complex to house everything anyway!😮
All the best to 'The Two Cs' 👍

But my kitchen/workshop and cellar are chock-a-block with boats, ships, kits, an airship (deflated) a hovercraft and two flying boats🙄
Of course every home should have a Zodiac in the lounge!

Hi Nerys,
Yes, long suffering, we are trying to have a sort out, the inflatable will go to Austria in November, and I plan to sell some models, as have two more yachts in me Dad's Garage, a Marblehead, and another of similar size 50ins.
I live in Cumbria and surprisingly there are very few places to sail.
