Green Deck for Pilot Boat.

Hi Pete.
I've not got any Humbrol 88 'Deck Green' to try out, it doesn't seem to have the same 'punch' as the Emerald green or the Halfords colour, but I'll spray on the Halfords stuff and make a judgement call then.

That seems a close colour Rob, but I still think Humbrol 88 is a very close match, have you tried it?

Hi Rob,
I think those colours look about right.
It is always a little difficult to see how it will look using colour swatches,

I am sure that when she is painted she will look great.

Martin555.
If it looks right it probably is.

Thought 6000 or 6001 looked about right Rob👍

While in Halfords picking up some primers and the VW Orange paint I found a green textured
paint on the shelf.
Thought...that's got to be worth a try 🤔 so I bought some and did a swatch test.
The textured finish is perfect and the colour is pretty close to what I'm looking for so I'll use that and if it's still not quite right I'll overspray with some Emerald Green (RAL6001) which is the closest to what I think the colour should be.
I did a Photoshop test using the colour coordinates of both and they look just about right 👍😁

Hi Pete.
Thanks for your observations but I'm still no nearer to conclusively identifying the colour I'm looking for but I'm reasonably sure that Semtex/Cemtex is
not it 😮.
I need to go to Halfords soon to get some VW orange paint for the cabin so I'll see what green paints they have at the same time.

Have been reading a 1939/45 RN book on destroyers, and they mention the deck colour as CEMTEX and not the way we say semtex, any ideas?😊

Extract from a mail from James Duff concerning revisions to RN colours in the Colour Coats range. (Sovereign Hobbies).
"Deck coatings, and particularly Semtex is more complicated than is shown here - there were at least 3 brands of latex based trowel-on deck coatings of which Semtex was one brand, and each brand was a different colour."

The make it go bang stuff was developed late 50s in Czechoslovakia I believe.
Named after the place it was made from 1964. Colour is usually red/brown or orange/red.

More info on the Semtex green paint for modellers (unless you like trowelling on your deck paint😁) is here

Much too dark for the Pilot Boats.

Yeah I remember Semtex it was almost like hard rubber and was usually very dark grey - almost black or a drab mustard colour, it was used to deaden sound and prevent sparks, normally where heavy items were being moved or at risk of being dropped, unlike the modern semtex which would have quite the opposite effect if anything heavy and metal was dropped on it.

Hi Rob,

Humbrol deck green looks pretty close to the Royal Navy deck green, (at least from what I remember - late 70's) , the Humbrol is perhaps a little darker, but it's there or there abouts.

That looks a bit drab and yellowish to me Rob.
The Pilot boats seem much brighter and bluer to me (on my monitor).
After all, they're not trying to hide are they😉
Happy hunting,

Hi Pete.
Humbrol 'Deck Green' could be a candidate, I have found the RGB coordinates for that.
Thanks.
Rob.
BTW. SEMTEX sounds a bit of a dangerous choice to me 😆

"very much like the deck on WW11 destroyers it was called SEMTEX"
It was Pete, but it looks darker to me. Like RN Deck Green.

Pilot Boat looks more like RAL 6000, 6001 or 6010 to me. Maybe 6024 Traffic green?
(Me eyes are goin' squiffy🤓 Time for bed!)
See attached RAL chart Rob. And check out the greens against your pic and the builders brochures on your monitor!
Cheers; Doug 😎 G'night all💤💤💤💤

The colour on the deck Rob, looks very much like the deck on WW11 destroyers it was called SEMTEX i believe (I'm sure Doug will know if this is correct),
I also used the same colour on the deck of my Perkasa MTB, and it looks the same, I could only get in in 17ml tin from Humbrol, colour: 88 Deck Green,
surprisingly.😊
Hope this helps.

Thanks Doug 👍
I may do so if none of the guys and gals here can suggest a colour that they've seen or used for something similar.

Green Deck for Pilot Boat.

I intend to finish the deck of my Harbour Pilots Boat in green, as seen in this 'photo, and I would appreciate some guidance on the actual colour so that I can get a rattle can custom mixed. Anyone got any info on that ?
I know that grey or black would be easier but I quite like the boldness of the green colour just to be different.
The orange cabin colour I believe should be BS381C/Orange 557/ RAL 2004 or Halfords 'Volkswagen Brilliant Orange' as the nearest rattle can match, so much less of a problem.
Thanks.
Robbob.
