Blackpool Boat Show 2019

The Blackpool show was the best its been for many years, venue is a bit dated, but, we were there for the models and traders, superb on both counts. Iain and Dave do a splendid job of organising the show, free parking, and, if you want a great deal on food and accomodation. unlike other shows there has been a lot of diversifying, Tanks and Trucks, see how other modelers do things! the bring and buy was doing great business.
Bring on next year. Just a point, they have some charity stands, RNLI etc, all the profits go to charity, not some fat cats pocket. Iain and Dave, I salute you

I go for the traders mainly, saves paying p&p, and you can cherry pick the items you want, also some deals going on, Component shop had a few show prices.
I bought 2 x 12v-10amp pb batteries for only £13.15 each, a good saving, I think Iain has done a great job with the show, and free parking, all you had to do was write down your car reg number, simples.😐

if it was held in a fancy venue the prices to vendors, traders, and clubs would go up, and so would the entrance fee.

For those that went just for the show, and not the depth of the carpet, it was great, and well done to the organisers for bucking the trend of dying shows.

For those that stayed the weekend, well come on, Blackpool offers thousands of alternatives for accommodation💤 I parked outside on the road, I believe that the onsite parking was free for visitors? that's iutself in Blackpool is worth something whilst the illuminations are on. There cant be many hotels that can offer that floorspace?

Might give it a go again next year, all being well. Pleased to hear it's been given a bit of a makeover, it certainly needed it. I'll try the fish and chip shop too.!

I think you might see a change in the venue now Nerys, agree, the lighting a few years ago was diabolic, but now much improved, and they have spruced up the ballroom, where the main show is held, but there is another room, where they have the bring & buy, as well as the tanks display and a large truck display, with a full road layout, a brilliant F&C shop, just round the corner, you can eat in, we take away, and munch in our car, very reasonable prices, eat in Haddock, chip, peas bread & butter plus tea or coffee all for £6.99, and very nice too.🤗

Blackpool would be a better show if it was held in a better venue. The standard and number of exhibits and traders is very good but I think the venue is rather tatty. Went there a couple of years ago to a radio rally (Alice's scene) and there were no lights on in the halls. Not a great help if you wanted to look at things! However, I agree with Ken on the standard of the fish and chips.

Know what you mean, I also was informed that the boiler would be 40mins, before a coffee could be made, went through the doors to the left of the bar, which landed us in the lounge, where drinks and snacks could be had, no problem only that 2 coffee's were £5, but a pleasant area to sit.😊

Spent a good day on Saturday and a good deal of money on bits and pieces. My only issue is the venue, its a bit dated but improved lighting in the hall was good, there isn't any where near enough thought been given to refeshments, you couldn't even get a cup of tea in the halls (sorry boilers not ready yet!) please next year put refreshments on in the hall. In future the Doncaster venue may be my choice of show. for those who haven't been to the National Model Engineering and Modelling Exhibition it on next year 08-10 May 2020

A good way to remember a place is the quality and taste of their F & C , spent some time in the one you
mention Nerys, also during our stay, we went to Tenby, drove through Carmarthenshire, was going to stop at Carmarthen, but traffic was horrendous, so we decided to try another time.

Hi Peter,

We like Aberaeron, it's about an hour and a half trip for us. Very good fish and chip shop there and of course an attractive harbour. I tend to judge places on their F & C standards.

Yes Marky, tens to forget a lot of members live great distances from the northwest shows.
Do they have any in your area, one of the best stands at shows around this area is from the Warship Association in Scotland, plenty of chaps from Edinburgh with very nice boats, Iv'e mentioned to Nerys, we should sort out a coach trip, calling at all area's.😉

we go every year and it is not a pleasant drive for us even from Manchester, perhaps next year, we can organise a coach trip.😐

Blackpool Boat Show 2019

Sorry Mark, I should have thought. It's something over five hours for us to get to Blackpool. Lovely scenic ride through rural Wales, then the mayhem of the motorways around Manchester. Haydock is a little less , but we can forget that one now. We are going to Warwick which will be a bit over four hours, too far for a day trip, so, it's an overnighter. Certainly from where you live it must be even further.

Sorry Pete, I'm not. Decided to give it a miss this year and go to Warwick instead. We've had too much running around to do in the last couple of weeks so needed a rest. It's a long way to anywhere when you live in Carmarthenshire.

Cheers,
