I totally agree Nerys,
I too have spent many years on ships and boats and now find it strange not being on them.
I have had some great times and some really frightening times.
So model making is the next best thing, and to be able to chat to other modellers on this site just brightens up my days.

Real boats dominated my life for many years, but now that I'm not fit enough to still sail, models are an excellent substitute. However, it is nice to come on here talk about more or less anything but knowing you are talking to people with that underlying love of boats.

Cheers,
Nerys

Hi Red & JB,
I have only been a member a short time but I think this site is great and I enjoy it tremendously.
A good laugh and has it's serious side when needed.
And I like to join in .

Too right Red, thought for a moment there it was going to be a case of "left right, left right, mind yer fingers" CLANG, or painting the rocks white on the base drive for a month with no pay!😊😀😁😂 We want to know about the boats but also nice to know a bit about the builders life and situation, (as you might with anyone you meet with the same interests) I joined this site in 2011 (Think it had a different name back then?) and have picked up some handy info from peoples conversations/tips etc over the years. People always seem to have been helpful on this site.

Irrelevant Kiwi - off the subject - consider yourself reprimanded ......... I don't think so .......We all need a bit of humour
I agree with Martin - all conversations tend to wander off the subject - but we get there in the end and there is always a good response when you need help......and one does pick up useful information along the way

Hi Guys,
I can see both sides of this discussion, and as someone who is unable to get to a lake/pond I find the site to be very informative and extremely helpful.
I make my models knowing full well that I will never see them on the water and in action, but looking at other members models and how they were made keeps me motivated with this hobby.
And as for the banter with other members it just makes my day that little bit better.
I know that starting a thread will drift onto something different but then every day conversation do exactly the same.
The trick is trying to get it back on track!
I am glad that the members here have a good sense of humour but when it comes to questions and answers and help then I know that the members here won't mess about and they help.
Anyway I am starting to drone on so I will stop now.

I meant a couple of people in a particular posting

A couple of people,? sort of proves my point, people have other things in life they have to do apart from models at times, so feel free to put something up and those who are awake can make some comments, suggestions etc. Besides, the site is world wide and time differences affect commenting as well, (eg I'm 12 hrs ahead of you and if I want to contribute in real time, I have to stay up half the night ! ie it's now 4.26 AM)
Lots of us support the site, and I for one don't mind a bit how things are going, enjoy it immensely. I certainly have no trouble finding relevant info amongst the conversations. The site would be pretty bleak without all the 'chit chat'.
I'm off to bed,- morning all.

That’s what Facebook is for. If I wanted that I’d be on face book. It’s so annoying seeing ten or twelve new post about nothing relevant except to the couple of people chatting. It’s not what I donate to the site to read

What do we do when everyone has come to a standstill with what they are building, (which happens a lot, - waiting weeks for parts etc). We are all not busily building 24/7 so we talk about other things while waiting for modelling input or questions. What makes this site interesting is that we all (with some exceptions ) seem pretty like minded and are enjoying contributing to the site and having a bit of friendly banter along the way. We don't all go to a boat pond and talk non stop about boats as I'm sure, as it might get a bit boring after a while.
I see the site as a whole lot of friendly guys discussing their (and others) models while having normal conversations about life on the side (as you would in a public setting). If you want to add model info or questions, there is nothing stopping you, and I'm sure there will be plenty of help or suggestions (or admiration of skills) almost immediately no matter which section you choose. Jumping from section to section trying to find posts can also be a pain which is probably why everyone mainly uses the one platform.?😊 The world's a changing place!

yes i understand that but a question or post is sometimes filled with stuff that is totally irrelevant to the subject which means following it very annoying.

topics do tend to go of on a tangent, but if you need any boat help it always arrives post haste and you pick up things that may seem irrelevant in general chat ,you do realise this topic will branch off 🤣🤣🤣

I think it’s a shame that ModelBoats has missed its point and seems to have become another Social
Media platform for general chit chat rather than about model boats. PLEASE can we have more about boats ?
