GLUE FOR ABS

Hi Alan,

You might want to do as Martin says.
And use pins as described!👍
I would use slow drying glue for this!🤞

GLUE FOR ABS

Hi,
This is my tip for gluing on a long keel.
Drill small holes in the keel just big enough to insert some small pins.
Tape the keel in place, tap the pins to make a mark.
Remove the keel, then push the pins in so That they show through The underside.
Apply the glue to the underside of the keel, line up the pins with the pin marks then push the keel down the pins on to the hull.
When dry Remove pins and fill pinholes.

It might help.

GLUE FOR ABS

Thanks Ed

It’s mainly superstructure, so should be ok. There is a keel to stick on. That I think will be a challenge as it is nearly the length of the boat.

Thanks again for replying.

Best wishes

GLUE FOR ABS

Hi Alan,

Take your time.
Remember Zap-a-Gap sets instantly!
But you shouldn't run into any problems!
I've used it on ABS plenty of times with no problems at all!

GLUE FOR ABS

Hi Ed

Thanks very much for the reply. I have used Zap a Gap before and think it will do the job, just never used it on ABS. It's mainly for the superstructure so I think it will be ideal.

Thanks again Ed it is appreciated.

GLUE FOR ABS

I used acetone for internal reinforcing strips (ABS to ABS) or sticking an ABS bracket to the hull etc. You just use a small paint brush and run some acetone along the edge while clamping the part. You have to be careful on the outside as it will mark the ABS finish if you get a run. I'm assuming it's still the same material Graupner used to make hulls out of (I had a Commodore and still have an Optimist from the 70s). Try a drop on some scrap to see if it will melt the ABS. If it does, you can also make an ABS 'putty' from scrap material softened with acetone for smoothing a seam etc (sets fast though).

GLUE FOR ABS

Hi Alan,

I've used Cyano on all of my Plastic models!
I believe UHU Plast Plus cures slowly.
I don't use it! But have heard of it!
Where Cyano cures very quickly!

If you decide to use Cyano.
Get "Zap-a-Gap Medium CA+"
1oz Bottle which will be plenty!

Good luck on your Build!👍

GLUE FOR ABS

Hi all

Just bought a Graupner Hertha Jeep SAR. The hull is blown ABS and the superstructure is CNC cut ABS. The instructions suggest using cyno or UHU Plast plus. Have you goy any suggestions as to which glue I could use. Is there a better option.

Ant information appreciated.😀

Thanks
Alan
