Site glitches!

Hmm! As suspected, and reported by others tonight, pics did not load 😭
Too many birds warming their feet on the lines?😁
I'm going offline for tonight to carry on with my own modelling! 😉
Let's see what happens tomorrow .
Ciao, Doug
PS: still no Notifications received, since about 12 hours now ☹️

Stephen,
You need to take a look at the jump commands from Forum, Trending Topics, Notifications!
Instead of jumping where you actually want to go you end up at the very top of the section, i.e. latest post instead of the one you want to see. Which may be on page 1xx not page 1!!
Example; I wanted to jump to Martin's comment in the 'Bob the Duck', see pic 1. (IF it loads!)
Result was, see pic 2. (Ditto!)

Why do people complain about things.
And it's absolutely free!

I don't get it.
Do you know how long it takes.
To program a website?
Over a years worth of work.
Or maybe more!

Then come testing and debugging!

And always complaints, Why?

It's free!!!

But, I know in time people will get use to it!

Dear camyaj
I agree wholeheartedly with Doug, Stephen does this web site as a favour to us all and unfortunately there are quite a few people who don't appreciate it, we can all help by being patient and helping out by donating to the upkeep of the site.

Dear camyaj
If I interpreted your first sentence correctly-
"Why should I or anyone I have nowt for sale...."
you have nothing to sell so what was all the fuss about?

"I did not realise creating a post gave you the right to tell people what they may or may not complain about "
Far be it from me to tell anyone what to do. (Not since retirement anyway🤔)
But since I created the Thread as a tool to help Stephen in his efforts to debug and improve the site, allowing others to easily report unexpected results, glitches / bugs, I reserve the right to point out when a post in it is 'less than helpful' and/or in the wrong place and vein.

Great 👍 Thanks Stephen,
I see that the old relevant posts have also already been linked in.👍
I hope that wasn't too arduous. Database pointer tables or the like I hope 😉

Martin: knock off the 'old' bit!
At 61 you are still a young whipper-snapper compared to some of us 😁

Site glitches!

Hi Steven,
Considering you only do this in your spare time and have no team behind you to help develop it I think that you have done an extremely excellent job.
I would also like to thank the members of this site that contact you to report all of the glitches that you are able to sort out.
You have made it so that even an old fool like me can use it.
Well done I congratulate you on a job well done.
If it looks right it probably is.

Site glitches!

I think mostly don't expect too much. I only put my spare time into this website, of which is very limited. There's no team of developers.

The forum categories are now available to select on the main forum page. See attached!

Thanks,
Stephen

Why should I or anyone I have nowt for sale its over a month appreciate it may be a problem to reinstate it .Nevertheless what a sloppy method to post individual items all over the place.I for one don't trawl through all the posts . There was a dedicated section before put it back as it was .I did not realise creating a post gave you the right to tell people what they may or may not complain about

Agree with Martin , Great job Stephen , probably the easiest site to use especially with downloading pictures etc . Very easy to find what you wanted.

"The missing piece is possibly seeing all forum threads of the same category in one page, ..."
That would have been my next question! 😉👍

Site glitches!

You can now select the For Sale/Wanted forum category when you create a new post. The missing piece is possibly seeing all forum threads of the same category in one page, but it's not preventing buy/sell posts from being created.

In my opinion Steven is doing a fantastic job sorting out the little glitches.
Maybe when things are running smoothly he might get the time to add such things.

If it's so important to you, why didn't you follow Stephen's advice in his answer to your original post - under the heading 'Shambles' ?

PS: I created this thread to help Stephen with his debugging. Not to just moan or request new / reinstated functions.

"It's as if posting caused some kind of temporary logout."
Hi Stephen,
That was my impression.
Thanks for the manual fix👍
Of more concern however is that if such answers do not appear in the Notifications the guy it's aimed at may never notice it!
Keep on coding Man!
Cheers, Doug 😎

Site glitches!

Not entirely making sense still, but I'll dig into it more later. I do see the post in the database, but it isn't linking it against your profile, that aligns with the fact you saw the login button. It's as if posting caused some kind of temporary logout. I'll manually fix this one for now and check later when I've more time what may be the reason.

Mornin' Stephen, Minion #2 reporting 🤓
It happened again as I posted an answer to Taffy.
I noticed that on posting my answer the Login button appeared!
On going to the Home page and back to the thread page instead of my Avatar etc the attached screen snip appeared. 😮
Cheers, Doug 😎
PS: Another side effect is that my answer to taffy in the Aerokits PTB plan thread does not appear in the Notifications or Trending topics, although it does appear in the thread itself - with the Invalid file warning!!
PPS neither does my answer appear in the Recent Posts in my Profile!?☹️

Hi Stephen,
That was my query not Ed's. 😉
Your guesses sound plausible.
If it occurs again I'll let you know, with pics.

Site glitches!

Hi Ed,

I don't see anything obvious which would cause that. I guess this was in the forum thread page along side your post?

It feels like it didn't return your member data, that would usually result in a 50 years figure. Everything is unix timestamped from the 1st Jan 1970. But why it wouldn't return your data I don't know. It's rare, but maybe there was some kind of table lock in place and another query running which caused it. There are optimisation functions which run on the database, they probably rebuild the tables, so it could be that. They could be running too frequently in fact, so I'll perhaps change that. Guessing a bit to the issue. If it happens again, can you screenshot it and PM me?

Thanks,
Stephen
