This was supposed to be a full and true restoration according to the blurb given on our trip, I thought at the time it looked a bit too blingy. But wow what a great trip, and a tribute to the people who served in her and the lives it saved.

Absolutely Martin, 👍 As I did with my Sea Scout above, with 3mm tinted perspex.
There are such wonderful crystal clear acrylate plastics available these days in various thicknesses from 0.5mm up, and scratch resistant, it's dead easy to make super windows.
Takes a bit more time and effort that's all. Just use the frame 'oles as a template to mark up the window 'glass'.
If 'time is of the essence' (as the lawyers say) then just buy an ARTR or RTR in the first place.

I had a ride on it 2 years ago, 102 was the number on the boat. I think it might have been an HSL. Sorry for the confusion but it was advertised on TV as a fire boat rescue launch. I won the ride with a local radio station phone in quiz while on holiday in Somerset.

Really, chaps, make them! it's piss easy. Come on, why should everything be available off the shelf for you? A sheet of 60 thou. Plastikard, a piercing saw (which, as modelmakers you should have anyway) and a few evenings or a weekend of free time. Get the frame how you like it and then scribe round the inside onto a piece of thin Perspex and cut that with the same piercing saw, cleaning up with Swiss files. The cheap Lidl's diamond dust ones are very good for plastics as they don't tend to leave cut marks.

Colin, are you sure there's a crash tender restored? As there were only 2 built I find that very unlikely.

Hi Mike, I also bought windows with frames for my 34" fire boat. I bought them from someone on this site, but can't rember who it was. They were laser cut and pre drilled and were a super fit, made my old 1950s boat look great again. it was back in 2009 or 10, someone might know who was selling them.

Hi Mike, I did buy the laser cut windows for my 34" fire boat from a seller on eBay back in 2011 (2nd may 2011) to be precise, they do, in my opinion, add a great deal to the overall look of the model.
I've checked back on my records and can only find the price I paid (£15:50p) and the seller (DW BAKER DG) this was his eBay seller signature, I've looked but can't find anything relating to this particular seller now. Can only assume he has ceased trading.

Those are good figures if you don't mind dressing them. There's a wonderful old American chap who builds lovely yachts and he has a teddy bear who moves the tiller and moves his head as he turns and for some reason you don't think about it being a teddy! I think the old boy's so nice the tendency is to forgive him anything.

The original build had a steering wheel much like a car!!
The engines were twin throttled lever type.

Nice surprise with the books👍 Shame about the reason for it though.
Re crew figures, the Police er 'ladies', driver and the surfer are from the American Diorama range, the two girlfriends are from 'Fast Ladies' - where else 😁 You may remember we discussed the correct scale for Sea Scout some time ago and decided on around 1/16 to 1/20. These are all 1/18 and look about right to me.
Can't for the life o me remember where I ordered them or find the receipt 🤔 Google American Diorama and I'm sure you'll find some UK sources. Cheers, Doug 😎

Just had a huge white US Mail sack delivered by our tiny Scottish post lady. Full of boaty books from the widow of my recently deceased old buddy. What a lovely present.

Doug, I'm thinking that simple is best for an old Aerokits. A ship's wheel or simple steering wheel on the left on a small console box with a throttle on the side and a couple of gauges/switches. Bench seats at the sides and a raised seat for the driver. Often just a cushion on a box shaped affair. A simple door frame to suggest a door through to the cabin.
Good luck finding a suitable dolly to drive. Not always easy with scales to consider.

Like my Sea Scout windows, made from 3mm tinted perspex, cut out on the scroll saw and trim filed to fit. I also used Canopy glue, when it's dry you can't see it👍
Also remembered your previous comments re Crash Tender windows and gutters etc.

Mike, it's very easy to make your own frames from 60 thou. Plastikard. I used a piercing saw and Swiss files, then cut Perspex to fit inside the frames, sealed with Canopy glue. You don't need frames for anything but the wheelhouse windows. The others have a small gutter just above the window, which is easily made from brass wire and glued on once bent to shape. Glaze the windows like the others, with tightly cut Perspex glued in.
