what have I got?

I was amazed today to meet Mark (cujo78) on here who brought his seaplane tender for me to view. His has already had rc fitted and we had a drive in the Chichester canal today. Two survivors from the early 1960's kit. Mine is having a new prop shaft fitted but we hope to get them both together in the near future.

Bryan, yep, that is a Bassett-Lowke. I was going to say, but wifey has had me out doing stuff on and off all day. I can't moan as she's bought me a new RC set for my birthday next month.
I think your Bassett-Lowke motor will be fine and the new mags from Oz sound great. My Basset-Lowke goes well with its own mags so far and is going in my Darby One Design stepped racer (a la Oulton Broad). I would keep it all as is, just do some repairs. That cabin roof looks like it could be repaired or replaced without spoiling things. Cellulose sanding sealer is your best friend on plywood models as it puts that slight amber tinge to the wood, existing or new.
Doug's yer man to advise on batteries and lecktricks generally.

Looking forward to seeing this progress.

Martin

what have I got?

Yep, that's what the Aussies have replicated with better magnets 👍
Should run fine on a 10 cell 12V NiMh or a 3S 11.1V LiPo. AFTER you've checked and cleaned up the brushes and commutator!!
Have fun restoring, I know what's ahead of you cos I just did the Sea Scout my Dad built in the early 60s and have started on an ancient Billing Boats fish cutter. Cheers, Doug 😎
BTW To go in the cutter I renovated a 50s Taycol Target Dad had put in the Sea Scout, and modified it to run forward and reverse via an ESC and RC. Details are on the site somewhere 😉 The Sea Scout is now brushless!
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

Thanks Doug that info is very helpful.

looking at her configuration the 41.5 360 is the best match and that ones history is good too.

The motor in it is made by Bassett-lowke

what have I got?

Most definitely a Seaplane Tender Bryan 👍
Either a 40' Mk1 like #308 or a 41.5' Mk1 like #1600.
Check here for more views of more STs. 😉

The one you found, #206, is a 37.5' Mk1, with 3 side windows.
Yours has 4 like the 40 and 41.5 footers.
Happy restoring, Cheers Doug 😎
BTW you can buy #206 if you fancy it😁 see last pic!

what have I got?

That makes sense as the ST code on the parts could stand for seaplane tender

what have I got?

Hi Bryan.
I think what you have is an RAF Seaplane Tender, it could be an Aerokits or Veron kit.
A very nice restoration project !

The windows are clear you can see internal wood through them.

what have I got?

I am going to test the motor but as it ran on 13.5volts 3X4.5V I think I would need to attach it to the car to get period electricity.

If I change it then you are welcome to the old one. I am a bit concerned with the rudder as it has no stem to attach a servo on to. A friend is ging to help me so will get his expert advise.

Bryan, that appears to be a Fast Patrol Boat. I don't know that it was a kit one, although Aerokits did one, but it looks to be a very nicely done model.
You certainly can't get those batteries any more, Ever ready being long dead as a company, but please keep them. They are more museum pieces than the boat! And that motor is something interesting. if you want to replace it with some modern rubbish, I'd be interested in buying it from you for my "Maverick's collection of Unfeasable Motors".
I would be tempted to leave the finish as it is as that is so typical of the period (late 50s), but rarely seen any more. it's a very nice boat and deserves to be kept in period. These boats for real, were not that fast, despite being called High Speed Launches, so you don't need some screaming brushless in it. A 400 brushed would be sufficient.
Some suitable decals on the hull sides would finish it off nicely.
You could paint those side windows dark gloss grey to represent glass from a distance.

Martin

This is a boat given to me a while ago and deserves resurrecting.
Before I do anything to her what kit was it? Does anyone recognize it? i'm not sure If I can get those battery's anymore!

Parts of it are numbered with ST then a number
