Blue tack is a kind of elastic putty that doesn't set but holds well and lifts away afterwards, can be re used. There is also white tack, same as above but white. Available at all good diy and craft shops. Lasts for years, I bought two packs in 2010 and still using, also ideal for sticking drawings up on workshop wall.

Thanks for all the info guys. Double sided tape was a winner, with surprise late runner, blue tack. A flash of inspiration in the wee small hours!

Hi Glyn, no nails should be okay, but only use tiny dots of it as it is very strong. Cheers Colin.👍

Ah thanks Colin. I was going to try the silicone idea today, but I won’t now, thanks. I’ll go for the tape. I was also thinking, after the silicone tip, to try no nails, as I have some to hand. I’ll test some on pieces of scrap wood and see how it goes.See if it glues ok afterwards.
Cheers all.

Hi Glyn, I wouldn't use silicone, as nothing else will stick where it has been, even paint will react with areas of contact. I know this from making a similar mistake myself. I have used small dabs of pva, and double sided tape, both have worked well for me.
Hope this is helpful, cheers Colin.

what about a little dab of silicone sealer ,if it gets too sticky you could use silicone sealer solvent to remove any excess a.Cheers Marky

Cheers. Looking at it I reckon that it sets, and I’m not sure how hard. I’ll have a chat with the shop to see what they say. ideally I’m want something that will hold items in place, which can be easily separated by running a blade through the tack so they will separate.
Thanks again.

Hi All,
Any one suggest a glue that can be used for tacking assemblies together so I can test fit them, see how they look etc. And then remove and disassemble allowing adjustments to be made, allowing the glue to be easily removed when required and the permanent adhesive to be applied.Masking tape not always suitable.
Thanks.
