34" Fireboat windows almost there, good and bad news, this should be the last post on this thread before the proper listing goes on..
the laser cutter has really struggled with the white plastic material for the frames due to it being so thin, it heats up and lifts off the table and tries to self destruct in the laser beam. he has finally cracked it though but it now takes a lot longer to cut and wastes more material which has effected the price.

the price per set will now be approx ÂA£15 this is still very good value for the amount of work it cuts out for the fireboat restorer, I have received really positive feedback from the guys at our lake about the pre-production ones fitted to my boat and hope you will like them too, its been a long process and you have watched it unfold in real time via this thread

advert should be in the "Private sales" section of the "online shop" in the main Menu in the next week

hI DB the windows look great and for that price I think I would have a set for my boat, going through ebay could be the easiest and best way to sale them

Laser Cut Windows. fitted the pre-production version to my fireboat to check everything fits as it should, and am really pleased with the results, took me less than an hour and a half to fit them.... I rushed it to be honest.
so we are nearly there, its been a long process to get to this stage, just got to sort out with "our leader" how best to advertise the kits on here.

I am thinking maybe an ebay listing with a link on this site

big progress today on the fireboat windows.. I collected the first complete set of windows and frames just need to check they all fit and take some photos.

the blue coloured panels are the clear window panes in 0.5mm thk, the blue is the protective film (and a set of frames also in clear) and also shown are a set of frames in 0.5mm thk white

the laser cutter is having some minor problems with the white so it isnt fully nailed down yet but should be sorted by next week


I have a provisional price too...

ÂA£12 a set posted mainland UK. its not etched in stone until the cutter sorts the distortion problem with the white, but its close!

will start a new thread in the for sale section once I have availability and some better photos

materials have been ordered for the first batch of laser cut windows and frames for the 34" fireboat, material should be with the cutter mid week.
clear window panels in 0.5mm and frames in white also 0.5mm thick, just got to play with the "nesting" on the sheet size to fix the price..
should have some photos and a price and availability by next week.

designs are finished, just trying to get them laser cut at a reasonable price, got the design out at 2 suppliers upto now, so will know whats what once we get back to normal after the Christmas break1

The windows will be very handy because most fire boat kits had gozzy cut windows and these will neaten them up also people scratch building who hate cutting out windows neat can chop em out and then use these to neaten up and have nice neat windows also help when painting no masking.
I was purely pointing out what I had found after an awful lot of work digging for several years on the full size boats.

As Peter correctly said... the fullsize did not have external frames on the 8 side windows.

I have designed a stand-off scale set of windows and frames for the stand-off scale Aerokits fire boat!

whilst the forward cabin windows and portholes are correct
it will be upto the individual modeller to decide which to fit.

a note to this effect will be included with each set

I just like the look of models like Chris Langs that have them all fitted

Just one point the full size boats did not have frames on the out side of the square windows they just had an eybrow the fram was on the inside and was a very simple item as where the rear windows of the wheel house they slid in wooden tracks with a hole for a handle

if anyone wants any other lasrer cut materials including superstructures etc try http://www.bellrockmodels.com/ he is a very helpfull chap this is some of his work.

I've made window frames for my 34" boat in the same way as Pete Harvey did for his 42" boat restoration ( see Useful links page ) but scaled down using 1mm x 3.2mm Styrene Strip. it's a bit fiddly but looks pretty good and is not really that difficult ( see pic on Fireboat photo page. )

yes!

I have just had my first ones laser cut, its a window pane and window frame to fit every position on the 34" fireboat, including the portholes.
both pane and frame fit on the outside of the cabin.
I will be offering full sets for sale in the next couple of weeks.I have spent several months getting the design just right

these will transform the look of the finished boat
will get some photo's up soon, but here's a photo of 2 of the prototype windows
