Well its an artists design. Probably end up in some exhibition on dry land.

Not all printers can cope with the different filaments but I agree I am intrigued with the range. Some suppliers offer short length so you can try so might try some.
I wonder if they are now making the animals for Noah?

Hi Wayne, that's better 👍 modular build!
But the ship looks kinda bent 😲 New corkscrew design? 😉

Oh, you can get filament containing wood, carbon fibre, aluminium, brass, copper etc etc, it's a whole new world to me.

Hi Wayne
I was not underestimating the capabilities, just pointing out that the hobby machines are small and not intended for printing large flat areas. Wood/Plasticard and Fibreglass are far better suited and much quicker for such jobs.
If you really wanted such a job it would be better done professionally on an epoxy type industrial machine, might be a bit expensive, but then again at £20 per reel your costs must be escalating.
Looking forward to the finished craft

Me too! 👍
Along with all the other classics: Hurrie, Mossie, Lanc, Welly, Defiant, Beaufighter, Sunderland, Catalina, Do 17, HE111, FW 190, Stuka, ME 262 etc etc. sticky days 😎
PS Don't know what made me do it but a little while ago I bought the huge 1:48 Airfix kit of the 'Mossie'. Couldn't resist it, such as super aircraft, one of my Dad's 3 favourites to work on and test fly in 😉 The other 2 were Spitfire (natch) and Gloster Meteor NF11.

ME 109 E remember building an Airfix one of these and a Spitfire in the halcyon days of my youth don't think it was as big and probably had more wings

Wayne , Just noticed in RS components that they do a 1.75 mm tropical wood 3D printing filament ,wooden decking ? or a nice little cabin the world could be your oyster ,couldn't get the link on the last post to work but they are printing a house somewhere in Scandinavia ,Norway I think

Just be glad you are not in Austin, Texas. My Sister in Law lives in Katy Texas which is just East of Houston and we have not managed to make contact so far. Probably all the lines are down.

I had forgotten about the design agreement stages!
I blame Wayne for all this 3D printing of hulls. Think I will stick to the tried and trusted and quicker methods for hulls and superstructure.

Was hoping to go sailing to-day but it looks like we are in for more rain but I live in hope. I think the wind has arrived from over the pond so could be interesting. At least the yachts won't have trouble freeing their keels if the weed is about.
Cheers

Hi Dave, that's why I signed the mail 'tongue in cheek Doug' !
and why I suggested a launch date around 2050!
Laughter is allowed and wanted 😁
An international effort could be fun, but you need someone with more 3D printing experience (also on large scale) to lead it than me 🤔
But like most international naval projects I suspect there would be no agreement on design and outfitting! Like with F90 etc!

I also plan to use my printer only for small parts and moulds, and to satisfy my personal curiosity.
My Graf Spee is currently in dry dock for re-shafting.
At the moment Sea Scout has priority.

Raining again, so much rain and thunderstorms here this summer sailing time has been seriously restricted 😭
Cheers Doug 😎

Hi Doug
I do believe you have rather overestimated the capabilities of the hobby 3D printers. Even with multiple printers I suspect this would take a few years.
I am making more use of my 3D printer recently but the process is not quick and I am only using for making small prototype items, which I then create a mould from and cast with Fast Cast resin.
That model is pretty impressive and if you have a suitable water to sail on no problem. I wonder if he take his lunch on board?
Your Graf Spee looks great and is a real credit to you. I suspect you have more chance of sailing her than the sit in version.
If you are not careful you may find yourself overseeing the multi build project!!

Or ...
how about we do it like modern ship building? Recent examples T45 and the QE Class carriers! Also the way the Koreans build those massive tanker and container ships, saw it in action at the Daewoo yard - awesome 😲
All of us with 3D printers (or access to) produce specific modules which are then linked up to build the whole ship.
Linking site somewhere in the middle of us all.
Oh Shucks! With you lot all up North 'somewhere in the middle' might be in the North Sea 😭 Oh well - was just a thought, 😉
Good night from Munich, bin a long day! Cheers Doug 😎

Agreed Marky, he might also need to buy more than just the one more printer he's thinking about - after he's printed his carbon reinforced body armour!! 😁

Ah yes, just a thought - @ Wayne, How many reels do you reckon it would it take to build this? Launch date say - around 2050!?
Or maybe we could all pool our printer resources ? 😉
