Aerokits Solent Class RNLI Lifeboat

I have an original copy of the Solent plans...
It IS a basic plan - and so I am adding more detail to the plan I am developing...

I have also the three extra small detail sheets:

Two show isometric exploded diagrams, of the hull - and of the superstructure. That showing the superstructure also shows the method for making the rudders - and an isometric exploded diagram of the propeller tunnels.

The other shows a port elevation with colour details - and also another port elevation - which shows the position of all the flat ply panels that make up the hull skin.

I also have the 'building instructions' leaflet.

Everything is dated 'september 1976'.

I am part way through making templates for all the parts required to build a complete model - although it will take quite a while...

But for the bulkheads - all templates are being made by drawing around parts within a part-built kit.

The bulkheads are lofted from the plans...
(I have 27 years' experience of scratchbuilding model boats)

When I am done - I will be making a 'baby' model - that is only 3ft long.
Easier for me to handle...

I have already redrawn the basic plans to the smaller size... and so I am making a 3/4-size set of templates as well...!

Keven. 😊

Glad to have helped. I still have the pictures and have sent copies via private e-mail to Bigriff. I look forward to seeing your Solent pictures and some of the Shamrock

Aerokits Solent Class RNLI Lifeboat

I was that member!
Daves pictures were a great help. His photos were perfect to get a feel for the size and positioning of the various parts needed to finish the boat off. I must get round to taking some photos of my boat soon, and posting them here.
Currently working on a Model Slipway Shamrock police patrol boat. Ive previously only really worked with wood for models. This one has a glass fibre hull and everything else is made from plasticard. Takes me back to my Airfix model days!
If Dave M no longer has copies of the photos he sent me, I still have them, and with his permission am happy to share.

HI Bigriff
I have a copy of the Aerokits plan plus the small leaflet that gave a sort of expanded view. As plans go it is very basic and does not give much detail. The model is not of any particular boat and as you may be aware the class developed over the years it was in service. There are several models on this site and you will see most of the variants. RNLI Motor Lifeboats by Nicholas Leach is a very good source of info on all RNLI boats (ISBN 1-84306-341-7). The Aerokits appears to be modelled on the last 3 of the class 48-014 / 016 as all the earlier boats had sliding doors. I have previously helped another member by emailing pictures of my model as this shows the relative position of all of the deck and cabin fittings. I am quite happy to send you copies. Please email me with your details if this would help.

Aerokits Solent Class RNLI Lifeboat

I hope someone can help.
Way back In the late 70's I purchased the Areokits Solent Lifeboat kit and got as far as completing the hull (minus the bilge keels) and the basic superstructure.
My job took me overseas for the next 20 or so years, with the model stored away for completion at a later date. Over the years and a few house moves, I am now only In posetion of the hull and superstructure. I would very much like to get hold of a set of plans, gladly paying for copies or originals.
I am hoping that the vast number of site members and the many Areokit models that are displayed, someone will be able to point me In the right direction.
Since my "start" on RNLI Lifeboats I have gone on to make a further 5 boats all In 1:12 scale, my current boat on the blocks Is the new Tamar Class.
Here's hoping,
Biggriff
