First I would use silver solder so the joint line looks like brass then into the sulphuric acid pickle.
While quenching is not essential consider which is safer a hot piece of wire or a cold one. Since air cooling and quenching have the same results why not quench since then the wire is cold,
while the wire is still straight after heat treating cleaning with abrasive is easy to do.
I was trying to make life easy with as little complication as possible.
