When it comes to airbrushes I will also recommend a paasche "H" series unless your a skilled graphic artist a double acting brush is more trouble than its worth ( I own 2).

Do yourself a favour and by a quick release fitting for the brush and hose

the paasche airbrush has its own thread for couplings so your going to have to buy an adaptor anyhow.

Being able to disconnect the airbrush from the compressor without having to vent pressure is a time saver.

Thank you. Just been on their site. They do a kit which includes an AS 186 compressor, tank and loads of accessories for £89.99.
Seems to good to be true for the price but I am sorely tempted!

It has to be up to you, of course, but is that what I'd call a full size compressor. if so, that's not too bad a price. An extra £19 for an airbrush seems fair, too.
Make sure it all comes with a guarantee worth the writing.

Martin, I note your last comment and I have spotted an Ajax Large Compressor with Tank AS186 at Cornwall Models for £100. For an extra £19 it seems it comes complete with air brush and hose.
What do you think?

Unless you wish to weather the model by airbrush I would ask yourself whether an airbrush is really what you need at all. if you just want to get a nice finish on a hull, consider a spotting gun. Also called a touch-up gun. it's effectively a big airbrush/small spray gun. Gravity fed, it'll do a hull in one go and need not cost you more than about £18.
A compressor is a far better investment. There's a huge lot of tosh talked about airbrushes and much of it at frightening prices. if you really want an airbrush for model general painting, a Paasche "Classic" model H is all you'll ever need. Bullet proof, no needle to blunt, external mix, easy to clean thoroughly, easy to use. I have one for colour, one for clear, but use the spotting gun more than anything else. I also have internal mix single and double action airbrushes for weathering and they're a pain in the proverbial!
Spend on a decent compressor with a tank instead.

Hi Cormorant, mine was of ebay, not got a name on it, but I would strongly advise get a compressor with a tank, the tank prevents the airbrush chuffing in use, you get a smooth air supply, also get a moisture trap, I have one at both ends of the hose. and a good pressure gauge, practice does make prefect, old cardboard boxes and old paint, practice mixing paint and spraying. Get a good mask, mine is from 3m, again from ebay, and most of all, unless you are painting outside, make very sure you have quality fume extraction, not just a fan!! a spray booth is easy to construct, mine is made from shower curtains from a pound shop, the "rails" are a piece of rope strung from the roof of my shed.
