Help with glue.

I like Aliphatic resin as it lasts for years, I have a 500gram tub which was purchased in 2007 for my wifes dolls house building, it was so good I used it all my restoration projects, even used to relaminate delaminated ply, and for veneer, and in all that time we haven't had a joint failure even in the wettest conditions. Also it sticks MDF. Hope this helps, happy moddeling. Colin.
P.S. Just been told by wife that I need to buy another tub.

Help with glue.

gorilla also do a non foaming wood glue, available from all good gorilla stockists, with good water resisting properties.
also gorilla "normal" is 100% waterproof.
another good glue to use on woods is Alaphatic resin.

Help with glue.

HI Mark,

I didn't see the spec sheet, I'll have a look, the fact it cures in 5 mins ( there is also a 30 mins curing version as well) and is resistant to sea water, make this a good contender for model boat making. The smallest tube is 310ml, but even that will go a long way in the model world, with the risk of it outliving it's 6 month shelf life, I have sealed the nozzle on my bottle as best I can, time will tell if it will still be usable beyond this time limit.

HI Paul

Thanks for the link, have you read the spec sheet??? SH*t to a blanket comes to mind, it stays stuck in boiling water so we should be ok!!!! shame they dont do a smaler tube like gorriler do

Help with glue.

HI Mark,

I got mine from Toolstation /http://www.toolstation.com/

I got the 750ml bottle, not realising it has a shelf life of 6 months, so I am trying to find jobs to use it all up on.

It is worth wearing protective gloves, otherwise any glue you get on your hands will turn black and take a few days to wear/ wash off........great stuff though.

Regards.

Help with glue.

I recently discovered Lumberjack 5 minute wood glue, great stuff and resistant to sea water 100% waterproof, foams up just like Goriila glue and like it says on the bottle, cures in five minutes.

Best of luck.

Help with glue.

Thanks for your reply Mark, might just stick (no pun intended) with the PVA sometimes new stuff sounds to good and as you will be aware some model parts are difficult to clamp tight due to shape or the position and yes I have plenty of time now I'm retired.
Thanks again

Help with glue.

HI Pete, first of all welcome to the forum, Gorilla glue, sh-t to a blanket, but you need to dampen one side of the joint, the moisture allows the glue to react. Saying it expands, were not taking foam type expansion, it foams slightly, filling joint gaps, (make sure joint wont move!!) not for plastic etc. just dont stick well.
Great glue but expensive, dont buy large bottle as it goes off, ( guess how I discovered!!) if modeling time is short, its great but if you have time stick to PVA wood glue

Hope this helps

Help with glue.

Hi
This may sound such a daft question but has anyone ever used Gorilla Glue? About to start a new build and getting materials ready so went to my local store but so many glues I have always used white wood glue before but Gorilla Glue sounds good but It states It will expand In volume as Its setting and only use a thin coat.
Any help would be much appreciated as I don't want to get "unstuck"
Pete
