In Ontario, Canada, we are seeing more tornadoes than in the past. Oh, we got the occasional one but now they are becoming more frequent. The heat waves in the summer have increased too.

I read that 50,000 deaths, this past summer, were attributed to the heat waves in Europe.

The earth’s weather patterns are changing.

Most interesting as your comments follow up just after watching a movie about the chief meteorologist who was assigned to General Eisenhower prior to the launch of D-Day. He was not popular amongst the admirals or generals in the room but his forecast was spot on.

Your Swiss Meteorologist was accurate too.

Thank you for sharing.

@Ronald et al:
In my annual military service I worked as meterology warrant officer. We were offered a lot of specialized training besides throwing hand granades and firing tracer ammo at night Great fun – I sometimes « mistakenly, of course » took aim at a rock not too far off with the assault rifle on full auto mode; that was fireworks at its best (not to the instructor’s glee . . .).

On one of these events the scientific head of the Swiss meteo office did a little loud thinking on where the weather was heading in the decades to come. He lectured about expected extremes : heat (mainly), cold, wind, floods, and some very specific things like difficulties for the tourism industry due to a lack of snow, loosening cable car towers due to permafrost thaw and the resulting ecomomic problems for the mountain regions. Very specific, very FAR-SIGHTED.

This story took place in 1980 – some 45 years ago ! And at present our politicians are lamenting the fact that no one could have seen this coming.
Sadly, we had not invited any politicians . . .

We had a large old tree blown down behind our back garden - fortunately it fell away from us and not towards us so no damage caused, but it will take some shifting as it must weight a lot.

Not even the wooden fence next to it was touched, but the horses that exercise in the field won't be able to use the field until it is cleared away.

The root ball is a lot smaller than I expected it to be, so it could never have been too stable.

Hi Ron, I’ve never been one to sound the alarm, but in recent years we’ve seen phenomena that had never occurred before.
In some parts of the world, hurricanes and strong winds have always been a regular occurrence, whereas in Italy they were extremely rare—if not unheard of. The only truly strong wind we were accustomed to was the Bora, which blows in the northeast.
Nowadays, however, we are increasingly witnessing weather events that are atypical for us: unusually powerful winds and whirlwinds, as well as sudden, incessant downpours that lead to fallen trees, flooding, significant damage, and even loss of life.

Typical of those who don’t look beyond their own backyard. Are you not aware of a raging storm bringing rain, high tides, powerful winds causing suffering to many people? Show some compassion to those in distress, caught in the eye of a storm barreling down across them, this is no time to shout out how you are basking in sunny 82deg balmy weather with no care about your fellow humans who aren’t as fortunate.

Many of these are also our fellow shipmates in the world of model yachts, pleasure boats and yes, even battleships.

Thank you for your concern it blew a bit and my daughter had a tree down in her garden, neighbour was over with a saw and a couple of hours later it was more wood for the wood log fire.
I read a lovely story, the opening description was of terrible weather conditions hazardous roads and warnings for more to come. It then went on with, "but here in Canada we call it Tuesday"!

BOELE - How did you fair?

Thinking of you all in the UK especially if you were in the pathway of the storm. Hopefully nobody was injured or your valued collection damaged.
