Precedent Huntsman 461/2 Inch

HI Mate

Glad the steaming worked for you, as to a sealer, what about acrylic varnish, thinned 50% or more, then brushed or sprayed on. The thinner the first coats the quicker it sinks in, then change to thicker coats to cover the grain etc.

Got mine from Homebase but B&Q or similar would work.

Is your Huntsman wood or Glass fiber hull, if wood then get a medium size tin, it goes a hell of a long way once the fibers are sealed, plenty of sanding in between.

I am looking for a sealer that is both sandable and is happy with acrilic paint from spray cans. A note to "jarvo", I tried Steaming and it was completely successful, after steaming I retained the shape using masking tape.

Regards and thanks, restin.

HI jarvo,

Many thanks for your reply, I had thought about steaming, but my situation does not lend itself to that. I will try your other suggestion and lightly score the part and reinforce it with a coat of resin. Thanks again for your help, it gave me the confidence to continue the build.

This site is just what I needed as I am in my late seventies and have not built a boat since the "Sea Queen" in my youth.

HI Restin

Welcome to the forum, the stern of the Huntman is a problem, if you can steam the piece to fit the top bar/deck brace.

Failing that try cutting slots part way through so that the wood semI snaps, this will allow the curve of the stern to be made, then fill any remaining slots with glue and let it harden before sanding smooth and fitting the rear deck.

Not difficult but very fiddley, have plenty of clamps to hand (nick the pegs) PS dont get caught, and dont blame me!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps

I am In the process of building and have managed Ok until I got to the stern. I cannot see the stern part bending to the extreme angles of the hull. If anyone has experience of this their help would be more than welcome
