A Swordsman 37 joint project sounds like it could be one of the best ideas that we have considered...so far.....

Working at your favourite scale, a 37" long Swordsman would be a very handy size and I would love to see how it runs alongside the 39" Rapier.

I think the longer Swordsman will perform very well, and built with integrated cabin sides it should be a very weather-proof model that would be able to perform in any of our UK water conditions, 12 months of the year.

Hi Chris,

I just noticed your mention of being interested in a glass fibre hull - there are two Precedent glass fibre kits here for the Huntsman 31 - I only need one of them, so let me know of you would like the other one.

Hi Chris,

When I first started to make my scratch build version of the Swordsman, I based it on the Aerokits model and a copy the plans that you had drawn.

That was some years ago, and back then you mentioned the Swordsman 37 and I was immediately interested in building one.

Other projects and health issues have combined to prevent this project getting underway and I have no access to any of those superb limited edition glass fibre hulls - but if you should ever get tempted to draw some plans for one, I would be very pleased to build the prototype for you!

Hi Tom - I had an unstarted Spearfish kit as well which I sold a couple of years ago, like you I regretted selling it as it didn't fit in with my plans to build all the classic Faireys to the same scale. If you ever decide to sell one of your fibreglass Huntsman hulls I'd be interested though.

The Jersey police were very well looked after to have a Swordsman as a police boat! The early Fairey Marine Swordsman boats in timber were very different to the post Fairey Marine fibreglass Swordsman boats that Will and myself have mentioned.

I watched the video yesterday. I thought that it looked different.
The superstructure is a lot shallower and different to the previous ones I had seen pictures of.

I saw an episode of Bercerac on telly yesterday and the Jersey Police boat was a Swordsman and it wasn't anything like the one in the video.

I recently sold an MFA Spearfish Model of one and it also didn't look like that.
I liked the one on that video but it wasn't a pactch on the original one.
I also think the fly bridge ruined it a bit.
I have added a picture of the one I sold earlier this year.

I wish I hadn't sold it.

But I do still have a 1970's Precedent wooden Huntsman that has a MFA 800 brushed motor in it. I am about to change to brushless soon.
I also have 2 x 3ft Anglia Model Shop Fibre Glass Huntsman hulls that I can still build to how ever I wish to put superstructures on.

I do have the parts drawn out on heavy wall linning paper, from when I buklt one years ago, so I could always build the superstructure from that.
I could also still build another one completely from wood from those plans if I wanted to, and I still have the original Precedent build instructions somewhere on the computer I can follow.
I doubt I would need to follow those though after I have built two in the past since the early 1970's.
RAF Ctash Tender's and Huntsmans have always been a favourite of mine and MTB's.
Plus Aerokit's.

It can be confusing as the revival companies often use the original Fairey Marine model names like Swordsman but the boats are different. The Swordsman 36 was by a different company to the 37 & 40.

It's not a 37 or 40, it's a Swordfish 36 in the video i was thinking of.

Thanks for the info Chris. I've only seen the split drawing that you posted before, showing the hull and interior separated from deck and cabin tops, that's about the only drawing I've seen of these larger Swordsman marine/Transworld yachts versions.

There's a video of one on YouTube, (can't remember if it's a 37 or 40 now), and it's got basically an overdrive on each gearbox, so the ability to lower the engine RPM.
I think it was a 'Meet the owner.....' video, and he takes the interviewer out for a run, and demonstrates this.
Didn't know that was an option on them. I did have a brochure somewhere I think, unless it was a magazine article, but something says it's a brochure though.

Hi Will. There were drawings produced for the kits but I've only seen the drawing showing the top and side views.

Charles does have his drawings of the Swordsman 37 in his book but I don’t know if he has any of the original drawings, I'm guessing not as they weren't Fairey Marine even though their designer drew up the Dagger whose hull was used for the Swordsman 37 and he designed the superstructure and internal layout.

Hi Chris, do you know if there were plans drawings for the 37 model, or was it just the 20 kits, with glassfibre hulls?

It wouldn't surprise me if Charles Lawrence has some official drawings of the 30, 37 and the 40, I just wondered if you knew whether any kit drawing were every available.

Good morning Herman. Basically this chap had bought the hull and superstructure for a 1:12 model of a Swordsman 37 and was asking if anybody could help with information and drawings etc. The full-size boat was produced by Swordsman Marine who were one of a number of companies that came and went and relaunched the Fairey Marine style of sports cruisers with input from the original designer.

The model has a fibreglass hull and superstructure and was a collaboration between a brokerage company who wanted a model to display and Eastleigh Model Boat Club who produced 20 kits for club members - obviously one escaped! 😀

I'll post some photos later.

Good evening Herman. Having recently written an article on all the drawings and kits that have been/are available for Fairey Marine boats I was forwarded an email by the editor asking if I could help someone who had bought a hull and superstructure for a Swordsman 37.

Whilst I was aware of the kit (which was not commercially available) I didn't have any information on it but knew someone who did and so we were able to help and the editor included it in the Letters section alongside your report.
