Right on both dates it was 1991 when she was part of the DTS
Give you a clue the fire was not is a port that would be considered a naval port now

I know it was in 1974 (there was also another in 1991!) but not sure of the port.
Possibly Dartmouth while she was with the Training Squadron there.

This old lady suffered an almost catastrophic fire in the steam boiler room in the early 70's (on of a few) - What port was she in when this happened ?

True the old lady did a good job long after she should have been scrapped but I guess nobody could afford to maintain her in these cash strapped days - also being so old did she represent today’s modern RN ?

I spent many a week on Bristol either on courses or unit camp with the sea cadets. It is a great pity to see her go, many generations of young people had a taste of "life at sea" on her.

I have to tell you that I have always liked warships (from the aesthetic point of view of lines and shapes).
Compared to today's ones that have shapes and geometries conditioned by the low radar signature, I prefer those from the 70s and 80s.
For me a familiar term of comparison are the current FREMM frigates and the destroyer ORIZZONTE designed with France. Yet I liked those from the eighties better.
Today they would not be effective with those imposing and jagged superstructures but, perhaps, that was precisely their charm.
My favorite was the cruiser VITTORIO VENETO launched in 1969; I always thought it was beautiful.
I wish I had time to make the naval model.
