Bad Tacoma class frigate added some cast resin parts found a foam ball that simulates a radar dome I saw on a pic of the ship. I attached the pic. I might finish this ship this week and put it on Facebook n eBay.
Need done primer spray n more Bondo putty for the Crockett to move on. Building mast using tubing not wood. Debating on lighting the mast now with hollow tubes. If I can get it primary painted this week if weather holds.

Keep filling in hull now it’s ready to do primer again. Then paint. Added some more parts to the cabin structure. I’ll start railings next and keep gluing on the cast bits. Once hull primed n a final fill touch up I’ll glue deck hardware.
Also have the BAD model moving along. Deck glued on. I had to make an extra cut out to reach motors from top deck. I could be ready for priming too shortly. The BaD ship will be set to sell once done. No room for these long boats. Lots of saw dust cleaned up too.
Gyro copter is being sold on eBay n Facebook. That will open a garage bay for my other car. Creol Quess will be last to get finished after the Navy ships. After that only small models.

While waiting on 3rd epoxy coat over fiberglass I went back to the BaD shop. The hull was ok after gladding. Not a lot to clean up. So I put rudder n servo in the ship. Then glued diwn the rear deck section. Masking tape held it until glue dried. Went Bach and trimmed deck when glue was set. Started touch up with bondo patch tube. I’ll sand the bondo tommorow. Then glue front deck. Add detail parts and if lucky do a primer gray spray. Touch up on sanding. Then paint n detail, add windows n hand touch diff color paint where needed. Once done propellers attached and done. Then I’ll sell that one. The Crockett needs another day to set the epoxy. Then sand n fill time again.
Gyro is on Facebook marketplace

Well I just put it on Facebook marketplace for sale. I’m flexible on price but I’ll never fly it. It was the biggest model I ever built haha. I replaced every bolt, designed n had a machine shop built a plate to hold mast n motor mount. Replaced so much on it. It was fun to use hobby skills.
On the Crockett I have done 2 epoxy coats so far. Once it hardens I’ll do light sanding. Fill if needed. Then a 3 rd coat or go to primer paint.
In between I am working on the BaD model. I’ll attach decks soon. Then details n paint. Then I’ll sell it

Hager:
When I went through your work done and I saw your gyrocopter, I got shills running up my spine.
I’m 69 now but when I was 32 I almost bought one myself, but instead, I used the money to get myself my pilot license.
After flying for a few years I went ahead and got my skydiving license.
So, your gyrocopter brought back lost of memories.
Thank You for posting those pictures.

Did both sides of glass. Temp is still too low. I’ll try tommorow to epoxy if temp gets warmer.
Meanwhike I’ll take some time on the bad frigate ship. Maybe I can sand the epoxy glass hull n attach the main deck.
Started to lay cloth on wood used 3m spray to hold it. Doing half hull at a time. I’ll do other side next. Once done I mix epoxy n go. This way I smooth the glass. Once epoxy goes on I will use an old credit card as a trowel to smooth the glue on the glass. If I get it right my sanding n filling is a lot less. If I find depressions or holes to fill I’ll use the tube of Bondo patch. Hopefully the hull will be done this week.

Lots. I might just part with some not even finished to clear the bench. I have a USA constitution large scale n a cutty shark. Rigging mostly to do on them. Too many models. I saw the 3 m trick on here n tried it. Yes tacks cloth. Last model I used really light this one a little heavier, which I used on steam paddle boat hull. It’s easier to tack n trim if it’s heavier, don’t know the once’s. It’s a rainy day here so I might have time to start glassing. I like the building of planes n ships. But once done they collect dust. I have a big PT boat, SS United States Glencoe, paddle side wheeler, space Odessa 2001 ship, electric heli and more. On a desk that was used in sea quest, a large electric RC plane w flaps n lights. It was the dude door control panel. It’s a mess here. I’ll take pic. Oh the Nako is a space plane that was at NASA when ussr wall came down. It was left there n I got it from auction. It was ussr version of a future sst plane. They were trying to build for fast internet country travel. There is a ton more here in these two rooms n garage. Been building since 12 years old.

Final sanding last nite I’ll cut the glass cloth n stick it with 3m glue spray. Epoxy it this week. I glued front half of deck last nite too. Rear half to flat. Trim n sand deck then that is done. Also put in rudder blocks n drilled pilot hole while rear deck is off. Enough room to get rudders done when deck on. If not I’ll do some sawing

First times saw BAD was when they produced the DE1040 Garcia. Bring on its first crew I wanted to build it. It was too much money then. So I made one from scratch instead. It was lost in a home fire. About a month before Covid I saw scale shipyard had one. It was $250 for the hull and another $200 for parts etc. I ordered the hull. As luck would have it Covid n other events delayed it several years. It finally arrived and was beautiful. So I started on devk and planned out how to remove superstructure for RC access. After a years work I had learned 3d printing and made doors, bollards, radar antenna etc. added etched railings, ASROC and some then classified antennas. I was in ECM so I knew the things on the mast well. I made it as it was in 66 after the Boston yard upgrades. I even put sailors in place on the ship. Glad I never got the BaD Garcia! Plastic card was easier to work with besides. That ship sized at 5 ft led me to build the Creole which I had done years befire for a friend.,it’s about same size. Then the BaD n Dumas followed. Most will go on display in hallway balcony I built for this purpose when I designed the house in 80’s. So that is my story
Pic of balcony in hall and the ships I mentioned.

Great stuff H! Every time I see a gyro copter I think of “You Only Live Twice!”
Honestly, looks like a blast!
BTW: That hull is looking fantastic, very sharp.

Yea BaD has crappy wood n instructions. Lots of ok molded parts n vac firmed parts. When done on Dumas ship I’ll 3d the Bad parts where not ok.
Dumas hull is final fill using DAP wood repair. It sometimes needs a swift of water to get it to flow. Used old credit cards as trowel to hit the hull bends better. Lots of sand dust. One more day of sanding then I’ll use 3 m ( learned it here) spray n place glass matting. I have large bottles of flowing type epoxy from other projects. Once done with ships weather will be warmer I can get outside more n dust off my Air Command Gyrocopter n get it ready to sell. That should be last builds for a while.
Oops forgot I have railings on the river boat Dumas Creole Queen left to do. Glad I have time on my hands. Kids take care of house gardening etc. I’m planning on selling the BaD ship once I get back to it. Maybe a few other models to clear room.

Thanks for that Jump never heard of them til now. A very impressive selection of models and lots of them!
Not a grey navy fan myself but always appreciate good modelling.

Hey Roy...check this out for BaD Kits, large scale warships and not for the faint of heart it seems...
😉

Hi what is the reference to BaD? I have a Dumas kit the wood is little better than the wood my dad used to light the fire! It could only improve. I showed a friend how to build a Dumas kit, a run-about, maybe 15 years ago and that was very poor and all the wood far too thick / heavy for the job intended.
Do Dumas do laser cutting? If so they will have to use better wood.

Tremendous work on a difficult build H! I am glad the instructions on this kit are good, as I’ve always felt that Dumas plans/instructions were lacking. It will fun to know the ballast used and the weight when you are done. Keep the pix coming as it is BadAss looking ship!

🤑I got a good price on eBay n bought the Dumas Crockett. When I di I was in middle of a build from BaD ships. What a diff the Dumas is so much better. I just fiberglassed the BaD and put it aside. The Dumas is bigger, better wood and plans. I watched several videos first. I have one more plank for hill to do. I did sand what I built so far and did fill it. List of sanding. I’ll fiberglass next week in garage m. I built the cabin, guns and one other parts while waiting. I also did several 3d parts for it. Some pics attached. A lot of sanding on all parts to do. Looking at attaching the deck befire fiberglass is applied. It is huge. I will use wood filler from DAP. Seems to work well. I used CA n freeze spray to hold planks but applied Titebond iii. It’s waterproof version. Using cay to tack the planks allowed me to mover faster. Clamps used too. I am working on the mast. I’ll use aluminum tubing so I can run wires up for lights. The big gun I’ll add a servo to move it. Having been in Navy I see a few more details I can add with 3d.
I’ll post more as I go. I’ll go back to the BaD ship, finish it more n sell it. Too many big ships
