Deans Marine LCM6 1/24th scale landing craft...

It finally dawned on me today why I love this landing craft so much. Eddie Albert from “Green Acres” got the Bronze Star from the Navy for piloting his landing craft onto Tarawa I believe and on his way back to his troop ship he rescued a platoon of Marines that were stranded on a coral reef under extreme fire.

LCM6 took her maiden voyage today. I need to make some adjustments, she is very slow, perhaps a higher voltage battery will sort it..

Job done! Sorry folks, I forgot to photograph the last build stages so here is the finished job. I will add extra embellishments as time allows. Got 4 steam boats to restore now...

A productive couple of days! The bow door is made, the tank deck is done, the anti slip bars were a bit of a pain but with paitence I think I made a reasonable job. The tank deck inspection covers are fitted and the door hinge is sorted. I have added the stiffening bars to the outside of the tank deck and a bullwalk capping added to square things away nicely. Final job today was the wheelhouse, a simple assembly job. Packed in for today, feeling a bit woozy from all the glue fumes! I haven't really worked much with plastic sheet, now I remember why...

LCM progress report. The electrics/mechanics are sorted, decks fitted and tank deck inner sides are fixed in place. Foam boyancy salvaged from packaging has been fixed behind the sides and in the deck framework. Next job will be making and fitting the bow door and rigging it to the sail winch before finishing and painting.

More progress. Steering gear sorted, motors fuseboards and esc installed, all tested and working. The motors are a bit rattly but I haven't greased the shafts up yet. My 3D printer has been very handy for making servo and mountings, and a spacer to hold the rudders straight whilst everything is aligned and tightened.

A bit more progress. The positions for the rudder servo, P92 esc and sailwinch established and mounts 3d printed. I will fix permenantly after a final tweak. The rudder tubes are fixed in place, I printed 2 little top hats to reinforce the tube to hull joint. I intend using a lipo for power as space is at a premium so the smaller size will be adventagous. The first layer of the deck support strip is fixed, another one to add. The bulkhead is just slotted in for now, it will need trimming for a good fit. Next job is to fix everything in place and test the electrics before fixing the deck and getting stuck into the build proper....

I know the device.. I am wondering what your receiver set up will be?? A separate channel for each motor and the Rudder mixed with the Steering port, or no rudder at all?? (ie Tank steering??)

Nick! As I may be going down the dual props road this year, this is a huge help. Further breakdowns on the motors and related mechanical elements is greatly appreciated.

Today was about motors and shafts. I used 2 x 385 brushed motors, 2 x 100 mm shafts, 2 x mini couplings and a handed pair of Raboesch 25 mm props. All was held in place with tape until lined up. The mounts are just tacked in place incase a little tewaking is needed....

Today was aĺl about motors. The power train consists of 2 x 385 brushed motors, 2 x 100 mm shafts and 2 x Raboesch 25 mm handed props. The motor wires are soldered in place and the motors, mounts etc were temporarily tspad in position. I have just tacked everything in place incase I need to do some final tweaking....

I've had this kicking about for a while now so thought I would make a start, the plan is to not stop until it's done. So far, the grp hull has had a bath and a good abrading with Scotchbrite. Rudder p frame and snaft positions marked and cut out and the p frames are fixed in place. Tomorrow's job will be fitting the shafts motors rudders etc...
