Some help needed here !

WOW! You got a big job on there, but worth it to bring that old girl back to life, that "thing with the gear on" in the rear section, mine was also originally a 1960 IC boat. That thing was to set the rudder for straight running. Unless you where loaded (in the 60's!) you didnt have radio gear, so started the motor, set the rudder, and threw it in the water, pegged it to the other side of the lake before the boat got there, or had you mate waiting for it, God help anything that got in the way! so, you can bin that, you wont be needing it!! 😛

I had to rebiuld my bow end, due to wood rot, a few months ago, I resisted it for ages, but HS93 "MADE" me fibreglass all the deck and cabin sides, glad I did as its now very water tight, I would recommend doing it

Hello all, a while back I inherited this Aerokits 34" Fireboat. it has a Frog Diesel and some remnants of old, 50's, RC gear in it. As you can see from the pics it has some damage to the forward cabin. Can anyone point me at some plans / drawings so that I can rebuild it ?

Yep, I've got some plans and a 43" fireboat I'm rebuilding - I'm in Nottingham

Becker Rudder's

Thanks for the reply. My 4 rudders are linked via metal rod, so all work in unison so to speak. I was simply thinking of ideas to assist in low speed maneouvering, especially for some competition stuff that was all. I didnt really want to have to radically attack my boat and put a bow thruster in. I thought id try somewhere with a bit more access for now.

Well its either becker rudders, or go for an electyronic controller to link between rudder input and each motor controller, so as you turn the rudder, the controller varies each propellor rpm, but maybe thats going too far?

I didnt just want to use my boat to speed around the water, I like challenges and having some bouys about the water and "mock harbours" are always good fun and challenging to move in and out of.

Thanks for the drawing, it does help, I just have to Ignore the kort nozzle thats all.
Best wishes.

Becker Rudder's

HI gregoryk9
I have fitted a Becker rudder to a friends model - scale Maggie M fishing boat. Worked well in the model but this is a chunky fishing boat travelling a slow speeds. The rudder is designed to give extra turning force at low speed so I am not sure if it would be suitable for high speed use. Are you having problems with your existing set up? Are all four motors turning props in the same direction? My twin screw models use separate controls for each motor. When turning I can slow or stop the inner prop. in really tight turns reversing the inner prop can make the model turn in its own length. I have attached a diagram of a Becker rudder if you want to experiment.

Becker Rudder's

Im considering replacing the 4 standard rudders on my Fireboat and replacing with "becker" units. I just wondered if anyone had these fitted to their boats and what experience/ recommendations anyone had, before I purchase and convert mine. Or do I leave well alone and save a fair chunk of money.

there is a little "play" in the guide tubes on my original rudders, so was considering this conversion, being as Ive got to do a repair anyway's, but rather than fit 4 "original style", standard units, thought these might be the way ahead [or sideways !].

Any comments appreciated please.
Best wishes.

Hello Pete
Thankyou for your kind offer. Copies of plans and drawings for the 34" would be great. How can I reimburse you?
