Tim,
This work by Alan Raven may be of help. In the USN, rafts(Carley Floats) were generally painted Haze Grey. There was significant discretion on the part of the ship's Captain though. It may apply to the RN somewhat as well.

If this link does not work, look up Snyder&Short.

Many thanks to Ed, Mike, Lew, Raymond and Jonathon,
It seems from the pictures that the pattern is a similar style but noy quite the same, so I'll make one up based on what info I've got. I don't anyone will criticise me if all of you are unsure. I just want it to be a bit different to the dull grey. My second query was , what was the colour of lifejackets life belts carley floats etc. Were they brightly coloured to help rescue identification or were they the same colour as the camouflage scheme?
Best wishes Tim

Hello Raymond S1!
You've just given me an idea on how to build the crates for my ships!
Thanks a lot for your link!

Here are some pictures of HMS Royal Marine, a Deans Marine model of an armed trawler of that era.
I will take a look at the drawings and see if there is any details of the colour scheme.

Tim,
I was thinking more the colors than the pattern. It would not have been USN MS 16, but rather a Western Approaches pattern. That said, the colors were quite similar, except for the use of greens in some WA patterns.
Hope that helps.

Thanks very much for that Toradog, I agree with you but the faintly discernible pattern on the bows is not quite right, is that important? Was the pattern important or was it left up to individual ships?
many thanks Tim

The camouflage is quite faint, and the angle of the sun does not help. My guess, and it is only that, is a Western Approaches scheme similar to US Navy Measure 16, which used Thayer blue, a very light blue, and white. You can see it here, scroll to down to Measure 16.

I would be grateful if anyone can help me with colour schemes for a WWII trawler minesweeper. On the Imperial War Museum website there is a photo pf Sir Kay displaying a camouflage scheme which can just be made out if the photo is enlarged.

Can anyone tell me what the colours were and what was the pattern? I have a few more questions. Would carley floats, lifebelts and lifejackets be brightly coloured for rescue or would they be painted to match the boat?
Finally would the sailors be a mix of RN sailors in uniform and trawler men who wore working clothes?
Thanks in advance
Tim
