Newbie advice

Starting to build the boat, as static model. Chicken out. My base of operations lol is lough key Ireland. Boat would not be really suitable for the lake. light hull small motor. Adding wieght would help stability but cancel out any performance. Might just float away, having me do bay watch rescue style, again. No thanks. |_| sank my 2L milk bottle boat 14/16mm hieght boat.

HI James & Joergn
As suggested small is the order of the day.
For power use two minI servos stripped to their bare components. Use the pots to set the central off position then use a Y lead to connect both servos to your radio. Use another minI servo to control the rudder. As suggested mount this sideways to clear the deck. Power can be a receiver battery 4.8v. Props will be small and as also suggested should be light. Use silicon tubing to couple the props to the motors.
I suggest you make the top removable and join to the hull with some plastic channel all the way round. SHG do mail order and may have all the bits you require.
This makes into an attractive model, and for very small garden pools etc will sail fine.
Good luck and please post some pics to show how you are progressing. 😀

HI Joe

Think small and light, anything can be controlled, its just how!!!!!!!!

Constructive thinking, move the servo to an area which is fairly high or lay it on its side, there is a way, we just have to find it

HI to both james w and joergn

The problem you have is capacity, at 13 inches the hull is small, so minI motors possibly 280,s and a 9gram servo, small ESC are easy to find on ebay batteries, use AA 6volt pack or 7.2 volt, these will be light or LiPo cells are even lighter,

Don't go for heavy prop shafts in brass, Hobby King have alloy prop shafts, keep thinking light weight through out your build, you can add ballast but an overweight boat could very easily sink!!!!

Take time to think your next move, take photos, post them let us see where you are and literally dozens of people will help.

We made our mistakes, we can help stop you making them again.

Im in Greater Manchester, if your local I could help

Regards

HI James, try getting in touch with Jerome at S.H.G. MODEL SUPPLIES he should be able to help, have got same ,rescued from back of local shop. The main problem is keeping the weight down, smallest lightest gear, bec is best, and lithium poly batt pack. Mine has two baby mfa motors [ bit big ] you could try striping out two servos as Deans marine do on there smaller models, hope that helps .

Newbie advice

I recently have started my first build of a RC boat and visited the local model store who recommended the billing boats RNLI lifeboat to convert to RC. Upon starting the model I have tried to research If anybody else has completed a conversion and In doing so have found a lot of online shops with the caveat not to convert this model. Could anybody give me advice on a running gear package suitable for a small pond or a link to a similar size vessel build thread. The model size Is roughly 13 Inches.

Thanks James
