Hi Rogal that all looks great! I wonder if you fitted a servo operating like a rudder but connected to orca could it weave in the water behind the boat?

Good afternoon fellow modellers, from a sunny, fresh Doncaster. I think I have solved the issue of pulling the 2.2kg jaws behind the Orca. I have toyed with many ideas over the last year and I believe I have found a solution. With just using a simple cord between the two would have done the job of pulling, but the shark would have had a free path to weave from side to side and up and down depending on water surface conditions. I also foresaw that when the Orca stopped the shark would not, and carry on drifting ahead, this may cause the cord to snag the rudder and prop!.so this solution was not an option. I had seen somewhere on the web an Orca pulling a shark using a piece of clear perspex under the water line and out of sight, which being rigid solved the snagging problem, but I thought would have water resistance problems. So my idea was to use 2mm piano wire x2. 1 mtr long. I then had to come to a solution of how to fix to the Orca and the shark. A straight rod through the transom would need a grommet and screwed flange to secure and stop water entering, plus be easy to get to without dismantling the deck and be strong enough to not pull the transom off. The same problem was with the shark but he didn’t have any hatches for internal access. I didn’t want to fit an external fitting to slide the rods through and tighten a grub screw up. I then had a brain wave, if I bent the ends of the rod through 90 deg about 110mm from the shark end and 60mm at the Orca end, I could insert the bent ends from the underneath and where they exited on the top secure with a grub screw. To cure the water ingress problem both in the Orca and jaws I inserted a plastic tube vertically, glueing them in position and thus sealing the tube to body/ hull, The 2mm rod was a snug fit in the tube so any water entering was negligible. The rod protruding from both sides of the sharks dorsal fin was disguised with a harpoon and a swivel this was then connected to the rope and the yellow barrel. (see photo). At the Orca transom end the 2 protruding rods on the transom top was disguised to look like a cleats. The flex in the 2 rods I believe will be sufficient to allow the shark to be independent looking but stiff enough for the Orca to remain in control. So tomorrow I plan to visit the pond, weather permitting and try this glorious contraption out. All batteries are charged and ready to go. Video hopefully available teatime tomorrow if anyone’s interested.
