Use Modules (sub-assemblies) when building a model

Working outdoors for 30 years I found radar weather sites very helpful. It takes a while to learn to read them, but doppler radar is invaluable to planning a day. The view over the horizon. I found forecast changes were 3 hours behind the change in weather conditions

Great idea, LewZ! Coming from the world of off-road equipment, modules and maintenance are a way of life. In a way, these models are miniature off-road equipment😮

Well done on those badass guns Lew! And I too have noticed the 3D/paint issues as opposed to cast resin parts handling paint. I still prime everything flat as heck. I am liking the sub-assembly set-up idea and will seek to implement that on a Dumas Coast Guide Utility Boat a hobby shop owner set aside for me on-the-cheap. It's been sitting there for years and he wants to clear the shelf. Just a lucky break. I'll take them when I can get them! 😂😂😂

We have similar problems with the weather forecasts as well my son reckons they look out the window every couple of hours and update the forecast.

Had some time on my hands as the weather forecast for today was 94% chance of rain this morning. Our RC tanks meet was cancelled and we had beautiful weather until about 3PM. Same thing happened last weekend for model boats! Would have better luck if we ignored the weather people.

That aside I had to do some repair work on the PT61 Gunboat. You all know how these model get bounced around (I know, some of you use crates). Between that and the sun and water spray this boat got yucky looking, broken and missing parts, etc.

So I had to break the boat down. Fortunately I like to build my models to where I can take things apart for repairs and maintenance. (Braking models down into removable modules might serve as a tip to some of the people new to the hobby.)

These two modules alone had several repairs. Broken guns, missing parts, and some sort of crystals formed on some on the painted Shapeways😠 Nylon "Versatile Plastic" parts. Yes, THROUGH THE PAINT!
