Motors

Hi,
You can have your motors counter-rotating
( recommended ), and also go one step further and have two ESC's, one per motor, allowing you to have great maneuvering, like turning in a very tight circle, and crabbing sideways.
Just ensure you have Right and Left pitch props.
For motors, I would suggest Mabuchi type High Torque 775 motors for the Dauntless. I stock them turning 6000 rpm at 12volt.

Motor and ESC choice all depends on what kind of performance versus cost you are looking for.

As for propellers, most (but not all) boats with multiple shafts have counter rotating props. A model such as yours should do fine with counter rotating props.

Hey Grampus, saw this in a Dauntless build blog:

According to his calculations, using two MFA 850 Turbo motors, with 1.75" props, the Dauntless should run at approximately 22.5 MPH less slippage, which should be OK for planing speed and scale appearance.
For the ESC, I have chosen the Astro Flight 208D.

Might be a bit helpful. 😉

Hi Grumpus.

I don't know the model you mentioned. Is it this? See the link at the end.

In general, propellers in boats and real ships must always counter-rotate to cancel out the whipping effect of the propeller. In fact, a single propeller, in addition to pushing the boat forward or backward, will move it slightly to the right or left, especially if it has no momentum.

Submit some characteristic of your model: length, width, weight, scale, etc. etc.

Building Dumas Dauntless. Need recommendations for what motors and Esc to put in. Also do props turn in the same direction or are they counter rotating?
