Anyone know about this paddle-wheeler?

Hi Ron, Try 'paddleducks'.
If they don't know probably no one does!
They have a HUGE photo gallery😮 and links to Transport museums and other paddler building clubs.
Didn't the guy who gave it to you know what it was?
Did he build it'
Cheers, Doug😎

Anyone know about this paddle-wheeler?

I have not received any information from anyone about the paddle wheeler. Surely someone here must have information on this type of vessel?

These vessels were capable of carrying sails. The mainmast carried sails on the yard arms of which there were two on the model though only one is visible. The main or forward mast also had a gaff rigged large sheet.

The aft mast or Mizzen carried a sheet also gaff rigged.

A friend said “ it reminds me of Fulton's "Claremont" with the stack aft of the wheel and a spar on the foremast, but Claremont didn't have the bridge deck that the model has. I wonder if the model may have been built as a "class" rather than of a specific ship. The model should be easy to electrify. I'd be tempted to explore operating both wheels independent of each other. Better maneuvering, and as a bonus a redundant system.”

Anyone else with sources they wish to share?

Good Lord what a beautiful thing! Keep the updates coming Ron! Reminds me of Model Shipways Harriet Lane kit on steroids. 😉

Okay you duper sleuths of model boating, let’s see what you all come up with for this large model paddle-wheeler which is only turned by its rudder, the paddles are not independent of each other.

There is no information on the builder as it came second hand from an estate sale.

Looking at these pictures you will see it even has “copper plates” appearance on the hull.

I will take daytime photos tomorrow

It is huge! It took two men to carry it up out of the house basement and out to my Toyota Tacoma. It’s too long to rest between the bed side to side. More photos to come when I get it home.

My wife was with me and asked me where am I going to put it? Hopefully the local library for the time being, while we do some research on it.

All the rc gear is out of it and the steam engine. Here is what was in it.

You can see the launch sitting on the workbench of the man who is giving away the paddle-wheeler.

Anyone know about this paddle-wheeler?

This was a Free gift to me, the fella bought it only for the steam plant that powered it. He had no use for the vessel which is near 60” (5ft) in length including the bow sprit. It has two masts. Rigging and a few other things need TLC he told me.

I am picking it up tonight.
