That sweet shop memory.

I remember this time in my childhood memories, watching Zoro on the Saturday morning pictures O how times have changed. 😀

That sweet shop memory.

Hi Colin, know where you are coming from! That sixpence in 1948 was worth £2.32. Since then it's lost 98% of its value! As for letting a 5 year old go to town on their own in today's world... I guess we all know why not and the answer is depressing to say the least!

That sweet shop memory.

In the late 50s early 60s my brother was allowed to take me out (because he was at school) we used to go to a picture house in Partick for the penny crush there were no seats and you just sat on the floor and saw old Tom Mix films, another picture house along Dumbarton road would let you in for a jam jar ,like you say who would let a 4 and 5 year old go out cruising the town😂 on a Saturday nowadays.

That sweet shop memory.

Back in the 50's my gran would give me sixpence for helping get the wood for her Aga.
That would get me into the local cinema for the afternoon matinee, abag of crisps (salt in little blue twist of paper), a tub of popcorn and a bottle of ginger beer.
Leaving the cinema with a very contented feeling with my friends.
Can't imagine where the world has gone wrong, dare not let 5 year old go to town alone these days.
I still visit local sweet shop, but have to get either soft or suck it sweets as only 4 teeth left.
But the memories are still there, cheers Colin.
Fair winds and calm waters,
COLIN.
