The ones I dislike the most are when I enter the shop to look for a tool and forget exactly what tool I was looking for. As I am always on-the-go, I tend to rush around a bit faster than my brains capacity to keep up. I then immediately slow down, reflect on exactly what the hell I was doing, and I after a bit I manage to recall the tool I needed. Calm reflection works wonders for me.
Honestly, reading non-fiction historical books on and detailed model boat instructions keep me sharp. So let's keep reading and building!

There was another battle in Baltimore last weekend, South Africa. Vs New Zealand, Rugby between the best two teams in the world.

Our boots are ment for feet, not your spare tire. A bonnet is for a baby to wear ( or maybe you folks use were or ware or ??? ) not to cover the engine compartment of your CAR.
As far as the politics, lets stick to boats. Ever think he keeps doing stupid things just to stay as " front page news ".... a 5 year old throwing a temper tantrum. I WANT ATTENTION.... good or bad.

If spelling is an issue, date formats can be very confusing, especially when just using month numbers - what is 7-12-26? December 7th or July 12th? Sometimes, these can actually cause financial losses if the date is read wrong - spelling can be confusing and cause some fun issues - date can be dangerous.

Well I think the point is made lets not start WWIII over this we can leave that to the politicians to do

Hi DWB. Take no notice of spelling comments keep on keeping on as before. I like to hear other opinions no matter what the spelling is. It does not define anything but communication is the key. We have similar interests and most of us are of an age where trivia is all that is left.
Not many can put a coherent tale together that is compelling reading and the writing part is an art we can only hope to copy. My mother used to write me a weekly letter when I was abroad in the armed forces, she wrote quickly and I was one of the few who could decipher her cursive script but I could hear her saying it all. That is communication.

One of my favourite (note the 'U') school report lines I read in a book on them was:- "The improvement in his writing has revealed an inability to spell".
Life is too short, just enjoy it and help a few others on the way.

@SouthportPat well the English spoken in England varies depending on where you are in the county. So why not call it Geordy, scouse, cockney or brummie because there is no way it is English. Remember the Welsh and Scots speak English as well as Welsh and gaelic

@Steves-s . That one always gets me as well. I worked for an American company for a number of years and always had a laugh with the guys in the electronics development area when they said they are going to "Soder" some components onto the board.

The one that gets me is when you Americans build up circuit boards you "soder" or "saw-der" the components, where us Brits, even if we sometimes get dry joints, 🤔🤔 solder the components on. And we do spell the word the same!! 🙄😊.🇬🇧 🇺🇸 🇫🇴....

I didn't realize there was so much disdain for us Americans on this site ....
Personally, I find the difference in spelling and unique phrasing enlightening and fun. (Even if I do have to refer to Mr. Google at times to understand what your unique figures of speech refer to).
I guess I'll have to keep a much lower profile in the future, so as not to invoke further ire from across the pond .....

Interestingly enough, some differences in spelling between Britain and the US, such as the presence or absence of "u" in words like Color vs Colour, are traditional British spellings from a couple of centuries ago. Later, it became the fashion in England to add letters in order to increase apparent sophistication. In many cases, it is the British who have evolved their spellings, not the US. Neither is right or wrong, and the history is wonderful.

Soccer vs. Football is another interesting, albeit unrelated, case - the word Soccer is British. It was the popular slang word for Football at the time that the sport was introduced to the US - and had the added benefit of not interfering with the existing US word Football used for our more indigenous sport.

English is ENGLISH - if they wany to speak different call it AMERICAN and not ENGLISH -

I recall recently reading an article about the American spelling and Webster of dictionary fame. It was said he intentionally changed the spelling of some words for simplification and perhaps logical reasons. That combined with usage and changes through the generations brought the quotation that we, (UK-US), 'separated by a common language'.
English has become many nations second language as the Internet has promulgated.
A thousand years ago Latin was the second language of many, which did enable to some extent world trade. A common language should bring common understanding, and we can see how some countries have used their own languages to separate and perpetuate their version of reality.
Queen Victoria spoke primarily German in the family, English to others and understood and studied Hindustani, French and Italian. Today speaking a foreign languge is a definite asset.

About a dozen years ago I took a holiday via a newspaper advert to a holiday resort in the Red Sea. There were 70+ % Russians there at the hotel their behaviour was almost primitive with food and as a westerner with others we were glared at and somewhat ignored. Then we met a few Russians who spoke English and they were forever apologising for their own countrymen for their attitudes. We were told they believe what they were told at home not realising it was mainly lies and was used to control the population.

So we do have some different spellings, it is a fact of life! But while it is just a few words, where is the harm?

Many many years ago I had an operation for 'piles', 3 days in hospital and a note to be off work for nearly a month. 30 odd years later the same operation, but this time the doctor said hop on the couch and I will do it now. Drove home, had a snack and went ballroom dancing all afternoon!

How things change! Anyway to all you guys now and recently under the knife, relax, take care and more power to your elbows. We seem to be the last but one generation of model boaters, remember age is just a number, so keep all your balls in the air check the floor for lost marbles and sail on!

Dave, 100 Feet? I guess , I am a bad judge of distances.

I was at the last stand, out... and staring straight out. , at the rock. That was my reference. There were three boaters next to me, two of which had blocked my direct access to the boat. So, even if I had reacted fast enough; I couldn't get to it quick enough. I was able to rescue the canopy, as that had floated to the surface. I had my Cajun Commander with me. So, the Turtle Back, was retrieved , but no boat. I had kept my canopy for a year, but figured the boat was hopelessly lost; so I tossed it. Now, let's figure something out. Mark W. cast across the pond from the 3RD. stand, and missed the first time. We moved the 4th. stand, and he nailed it, on the next try. . A 33 yard miracle cast , that got my boat back. GOD was definitely smiling on us. THE boat? It's been stubborn, as though, it didn't want to get caught. At first, we thought we had hooked a huge fish, or the pond liner. The fact the boat stayed on the grappling hook, and being dragged, nearly a 100 feet, and stayed on the hook was the real miracle.

And ready for Lighthouse, number # 2.

@MarkN1 I just did a quick "Google Maps measure" Where the Cobra went down the pond is about 100' wide.

Hey, Dave, thanks the distance correction. The distance from shore to shore? That would be interesting to find out. THE boat went down, ten feet from the apposite shore. in seven feet of water, Directly in line, with that huge rock. That was the line, I told Mark Wolfe, to cast at. Apparently, I was right. Mark, and Glenn took photos of the Cobra , just as it came out. The windshield was soot black, and the boat was caked in mud. The boat still floated. It spent the next two days , in my bath tub, rinsing all the garbage out of the boat.

All the original parts, were still there. Including the Spektrum 5200 50 C battery that was still connected. The RED power lead, had broke at the ESC THE boat, saved itself. If the COBRA had remained on power, THE LIPO, would have gone into thermal destruction, from overly discharged.

The fast forward, was the initial re construction , to the first test . THE electronics: was A Spektrum DX -2 system, a Dynamite 2000 KV. motor, a Traxas 90 AMP ESC. and a FUTABA standard Servo. Running hardware: ALL DUMAS OEM. Replaced.

Additional MODS were added. Including Risers, and trim tabs. Spock, and son, are now the drivers.

Water skier, was optional.



... and Scotty. , who is still resting on the bottom. (One of the Star Trek Dolls, that Kevin had given to me. )

I can vouch for Mark's story!
I was there the day it sank.
I saw him running it last night before our club meeting!
His story is a testament to our club, as club members pitched in to make Mark's "Phoenix" usable again.
