Very realistic figures
I do have the impression that the fisherman had a big sailfish who had bitten when I see al the blood on the edge of the boat!!!!

Hi there everyone, didn’t realise how long it was since my last post. It’s harder work being retired than working, it’s now a 7 day week, I’ve still my blog to finish plus the shark to tow behind the Orca, I have at least finished the crew and took a few photos so here they are… the boxed figures are as the originals, they started out as a set of DR Who figures £12 for 3 from B+M stores.

Hi there. If it helps the first couple of pages of my “Orca Build” blog and the first 5 photos might help as I took photos at most stages of my build. So hope this gives some inspiration to dive in and start. Don’t hesitate to ask for more info as I don’t blog every detail and only got to page 10. There must be at least another 10 to finish,I have loads of photos and still shots from the film etc. what I did find out though was they used 3 boats when filming so some details are different in some scenes.but this helps dispel the rivet counters who comment on something not being correct, and of course gives us builders licence to interpret details our way. Good luck and contented modelling

Can I ask did you build this from a plan or all your own design since seeing it it's sparked my juices a bit and decided to order a set of plans . However they have arrived and seem a bit sketchy in places excuse the pun .. ie I'm trying to order what timber I will meed sizes etc but on the plans I got I cannot for the life of me work out the keel 🙄 it's not fully shown drawn in ..plans I got are Sarik

Hi Rogal, nice touch the barrels. I recently sans lathe I am afraid, made some barrels with some dowel and stuck matchsticks all the way round and filed a curve at each end for the shape. Then cut some quite narrow width tubing to fit. That was the hardest part!
Nice job

First class job Rogal, well done ☀️☀️☀️
Superb detailing, but I must admit ...
whoever makes them, those yellow barrels always remind of Minions😉
Looking forward to your next project.
Cheers, Doug 😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

Hi Rogul,

I have made and enjoyed two fast fishing boats - but I have to admit defeat by your Orca's wonderful level of detail.

I guess you are using a similar 1\16th scale as my models and I really look forward to your build feature.

We have a good number of 3 foot plus Carp in Yeadon Tarn, - so please come along to join me in " big game hunting"!!

With best wishes. Dr John F. Leeds and Bradford. BBC. 😊😊😊

Hi Steve watch this space. The shark, tick, the barrels, tick, the connection, tick. The technicality is sorted, just needs assembling

99% finished, took her to the pond this morning for her maiden sail. All went perfect just need to add a piece of lead sheet under rear decking to trim her up, slightly bow down initially but once added the lead worked fine. Just need to finish all 3 figures and she will look more realistic on the water.since retiring at christmas I’ve probably put in 2-3 hours most days over the last 2 months and I’ve really enjoyed this build, I have a lot of photos of most stages of the build and will complete the blog I started this time last year, so watch this space. I took many screen shots from the film also to help with the finer details, which at times confused things as I found out that 3 boats were used in the making of the 1975 film and the continuity wasn’t brilliant at the best of times. If anyone’s interested or building there own Orca I would only be to happy to answer questions ,so fire away.
