Here in Minnesota, we have more than our share of Canada Geese. Most people I know refer to them as "Flying Carp", as they are about as desirable on or in the lake as a carp.

River Rat, I belong to the Edina Model Yacht Club ( www.EMYC.org ), Edina is a suburb of Minneapolis. Our club is quite active, we meet at the ponds in Centennial Lakes Park in the city of Edina regularly. Club members can be found at Centennial Lakes on evenings and weekends throughout the summer.

We hold 3 major events each summer, which are well attended and draw quite a crowd of spectators. They are the "Parade of Boats" on 6/11, Lighthouse Night #1 on 8/16, and Lighthouse Night #2 on 9/9. We would love to have you join us at any of these events, should you decide to make a road trip up here.

I have posted pictures of past events on this site. I will post our calendar of events for this coming summer, and some pictures of last year's Parade of Boats and Lighthouse night #2.

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

My bad on the geese Ron... they can be a pain sometimes... I am in Louisville Kentucky. There are a couple Racing clubs around here but I prefer the type of boats on this site. I would like to visit a large event this summer. You guys have anything? RR

River Rat, which state are you located in? If your state borders on Canada, i'm sure you will hear from nearby Canadian members of this site, as we Canadians love to meet up with American visitors.

BTW those pests are CANADA GEESE, not purely "Canadian".

In my area we have numerous ponds that are listed as rc ponds. Problem is...the only face to face I get is with Canadian geese 😔. Rc boating and sailing are just not popular here. I have never run into another person at any of our locations with an rc boat. (wife loves to fish tho) Also no clubs to mention. So it's solo for me. I think we might travel to a meet somewhere this summer. Where might we find a large rc boat event in the states? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks RR

Update on being in a club and the shows we were at.
For more than two years because of covid we have not been able to meet or show our boats.
Over the last two weekends our club was able to setup and show our boats with a third show coming the last weekend in March.
As builders we love to show and tell about our work.Having members of this forum give feedback is wonderful.
Having the puplic view our work gives us a chance to talk about our boats and how we built them.
If you will Brag a little bit as you see the interest they show.
As a club we do enjoy showing to the puplic but also to each other.

If you can find a local club and attend on a sailing day for a chat to see if it suits your requirements. Most clubs welcome visitors and allow them to sail with some restrictions mainly covering health and safety and insurance.
My own club welcomes new and prospective members and allow three visits in any one year for visitors before they are required to join.
We have helped many new modellers over the years and as most have gravitated to boats from other modelling hobbies we are able to offer similar mindsets and lots of experience to help and guide around the pitfalls.

Club membership offers so many advantages over solo sailing. My club, Leeds & Bradford MBC has been open all through winter, every Sunday and Wednesday morning, whatever the weather. The only condition that has stopped us sailing has been ice. On occasion the sheer cold has been enough to frighten off all but the most hardy. Trying to handle a transmitter with frozen, numb fingers can lead to more repair work being needed ! We enjoy sailing on Yeadon Tarn (in Tarnfield Park) which is very close to Leeds Bradford airport; therefore no flying boats allowed ! The water is about 450m x 200m, so there is plenty of space for sailing craft of any size, and for fast electric boats. We are limited to 25mph however, so no FAST electrics.
New members always welcome. Just turn up on a Sunday or Wednesday morning.😉

Morning
I m member of 2 clubs. This is the advantage of living in a big town😎
The one in the park is open every Sunday for sailing from 13 up to 18 hours and with the Belgian wheather they also have a clubhouse with heating !! We welcome about 10 members every Sunday. The other one the royal modelyacht club
Organises every month a regatta
January pancake regatta
February valentine regatta
March evening lights regatta
So for some years we don’t have a sailing stop during wintertime

I adore your wee coastal puffers, those small resupply ships that go to various communities along the coast to deliver mail + other necessities.
Club sailor here, Metro Marine Modellers which is essentially THE club for Toronto & the surrounding Greater Toronto Area. Mississauga is the first city to the west of Toronto, recently our club reserved a recreation centre's pool for an hour so that members cud escape the January Doldrums. We have reserved it again for March, hoping for a good turnout. Not the venue for fast electrics, however everyone is very respectful, care to avoid collisions with cosmetic damage. Olympic sized pool handles more than a dozen models easily.

After the long winter our club is finally back in swing with some new vessels getting wet.

I was wondering what everyone else is doing?

Are you a solo sailor or are you part of a club?

What is you're go to boat or have you just built something new over the cold season?

Here is a few club boats that set sail today before the nasty weather rolled in
