Is very kind of you Dave to send me a photograph of your pond during the winter. Also very kind of you to let the skaters use it during the winter. However, the ice skaters here have to use the rink in the mall, but they do get to use it all year round. How's that for balance?

PS We let ice skaters use our pond in the "off season"

It's been about 60 years since I've seen a frozen pond live.

We had our model boat meet today. The temperature was 75ﾟF (I'm in the US). I'll let you "up to date people" convert that to C.

Thanks for the comment on my car. It runs just as nice as it looks.
At work we have many pieces of equipment some with standard fittings and some with metric fittings. We even have one that has been modified over the years and now has "shmetric" fittings,😂. LEN1

I too have a need for 2 sets of tools. Heck, sometimes I will run into fractional and metric on the same rig (John Deere is good for that).

I've become "ambidextrous"😁in working with both systems here in the states. Working on new and old cars I need 2 sets of tools, one in each system. I constantly need to convert measurements because the plans I use can be in either system. You sort of get used to it. As a mental conversion I think of 1mm as just over 1/32", 3mm as close to 1/8", 6mm as 1/4".etc. Just the way my wacky brain works. LEN1

Australia went metric with currency in 1966, converting to measurements in 1970. A lot of us still convert back automatically however in the long run, the metric system comes out on top.

Looking at some measurements for model boats being down to 3/32 or sometimes smaller makes me grab the smart phone and convert.

Builders talk in mm sizes with their timber, which in the long run is easier. Keeps the grey matter alive.

Canada's conversion to Metric happened along after I was well established in my working life. Despite scientific training,(in metric) both undergrad & post grad, I hav never become really comfortable with metric. I have a physical sense of inch, foot, pound, quart...& Fahrenheit. Our proximity to the USA I believe compells us to speak in both systems. And many standards in the Construction industry show no signs of going away. Plywood & drywall, sheet goods, come in 4'x8', studs are spaced 16" (times 3, = 48"),fluorescent light fixtures in our kitchens & workshops are 48" even when they are LED. I'm very slowly getting accustomed to cm in our vessel construction altho many parts come from USA in SAE or fractional, but shafts from other countries come in mm increments.

This morning it was -16F (-26.7C) here in Minnesota.
Not much boating/sailing going on here.
It is even too cold for the ice fishermen to venture out.
I'm SO over with winter .... arghhhh!
