Blast from my past

Popped a couple Radomes on top to see how they'd look. This will be a rucksack boat so the less add-ons the better. I'm sure once it's on the water will look nice

In North America we call that "big sort of spoiler" a 'radar arch' as it typically supports a near-range radar radome. Yes, I'm surprised as well that your Futaba servo is dead, I am using one from 1978.

Blast from my past

Hi John thanks for the kind words. Im not a fan of brushless in boats only my aircraft and helis. I know it's odd haha just love my brushed motors. I have purchased a 700 sized Foxy motor and robbe z-drive to see how that goes. A slower planing sport boat with scale like looks is what if like to aim for. We shall see. Have another boat that I'm planning on revealing this weekend that will take up my time from then so I'll try use this as much before the 🙂

Blast from my past

Hi Scott,

At least now it will be a far more unusual model that when you were 16!

It should also go well as standard - and you could then make it go far faster than the designer ever predicted by fitting a small brushless motor for more thrills and spills.

With best wishes. John. 😀😮😀

Blast from my past

So today I decided to open my 16th birthday pressie which is a Ripmax Interceptor 650. I'm now 35 so I think I've been patient enough 🙈. On opening the box I was greeted by a good looking model and just as I remembered it when I circled the adverted in the "Ripmax Modellers Handbook". That sharp looking bow and the big sort of spoiler where the main attractions at the time. It came with a Futaba Attack 2 channel radio (with crystals) and a 7.2v NICD battery.

So I have given it a mild update ditching the 27mhz and fitted 2.4ghz. 30amp esc over the standard 15amp. Have changed the rudder for something completely different and added a new prop. Have had to remove a few stickers as they where lifting and become brittle. The included Futaba S3003 servo doesn't show signs of life at all which is odd as they are bulletproof though I popped in another standard Servo.

Bath test completed and time for a maiden tomorrow! Will post a wee video from the moment it's placed in the water. Hopefully a nice little cruiser. Will be changing the colour after the maiden along with the motor and a surface piercing prop though remaining brushed

Wish I had opened her up years ago though life changed a lot when I turned 16 and I had placed this in my parents cellar and forgotten about it along with several other boats and aircraft. Still she's out now and ready to finally touch water
