Outboard cabin cruiser

That's a great boat. It's a shame that the motor wore out so quickly. I have something very similar, I a used a motor set-up from Graupner, added my own motor to it, so far no problems. I like it vey much.

I can see several possible solutions to this. First there are some companies that specialize supplying small parts. I would try that first seeing if they have see if they have something that will work for you. There are other sources for outboard motors, I would check Cornwall Model Boats, they have some that may work.

If all else fails, I have a , new, in the box, never tested, EP-1 motor. They are rare, I was saving it for some future project. I would consider selling it for a reasonable offer to help you out.
The sure way to succeed is, just try one more time

Can anyone help with replacement gears for the aquacraft ep-1 outboard.
Sadly I’ve worn mine out. They are made out of brass which isnt ideal. Manufacturing ceased a long time ago unfortunately.

Here you go - I’m really Happy how it runs - it does sit low and the battery is too heavy but it also helps cut the water nicely. Scale speed is pretty close .
Only issue is it got quite hot and only running a 2ah lead acid with the evx2 it didn’t run long at all . Cheers all

Yes, looks really good. As well as the weight of the battery the prop might be an issue as regards speed, it looks really small for a 28" boat. Problem is that outboards do tend to have small props.

My Huntress at 23" has a stern drive with a 30mm prop and that planes well.

Maiden voyage today - the speed controller I have selected over heated and it never got on the plane so I’m going to wire up the traxxas evx2 which can handle bigger draw. I just need to remember how to “shot circuit” one of the power inlets so it can run of the 12v lead acid.

Yes that battery is a bit heavy ….

Great colour, excellent finish Schmango👍
I'm pretty sure that 12V SLA will be too heavy.
It'll weigh about 2kg🤔
For comparison; my 24" Sea Scout weighs 1.98kg all up with a 3S 4Ah LiPo.
She planes very nicely with a 1000kv motor and 30mm prop.

Made some progress - have since bolted the outboard on and with a 12v lead acid I think might be too heavy . I will give it a try once it’s all wired up and see how it runs. I’m absolutely winging this build 😀

Interested to see how this progresses. I'm soon to start building something similar but smaller and slower, being a river and lake cruiser. It will be 17" long.

It was designed for an outboard but it's been difficult getting a decent outboard at a scale of 1:12 so I've changed to it being an inboard.

I like how you have dealt with the flare to the hull as can be difficult to get right.

Outboard cabin cruiser

Hi everyone. I started this cabin cruiser 10 years ago and decided to blow the dust of recently . It’s my own design from scratch and I’m completely winging it as I go. The idea is for it to be a knock about model that I can use with my 6yo son . I’ve designed it with high freeboard to be used in choppy water and I have an ep1 outboard that I’m going to bolt on the back . ….. I might go for twins but that could be ambitious for a 28” model . Keen to see how others have built the outboard well area and steering set up. Cheers
