It's not only China as CB90 points out, the EU presents problems too. Take one individual German supplier. Aeronaut boat kits. Normally readily available from a number of suppliers in the UK.Look at their lists, and what do you see against many of their more popular kits, "unavailable" "unavailable" "unavailable". And what can be responsible for this, well I have heard Brexit mentioned and the difficulty of importing anything from our former partners.

Bikes to the rescue indeed! Went for a good run yesterday, which will be one of the last ones of the year apart from having it serviced next week.

Bikes are one of my summer hobbies which means that I don't do much model boat modelling throughout the summer. Though now the weather is on the turn I've started the long delayed painting so progress will increase again.

As far as prices go, they are only going one way I'm afraid, and due to the increasingly cost of living, especially like ours in the UK, then folks won't have the money to buy things for hobbies with the potential knock on effect for suppliers.

Quite true I think Michel Claude, the Chinese might price themselves out of the market eventually. People here are starting to buy local, even if the price is a bit more. I am actively buying goods made in NZ, or foods made in Australia, Europe, South Africa, Taiwan, S Korea, Indonesia etc, (even India) as the Chinese stuff is total rubbish. Locally made plastic goods (containers etc) are 100% better than the Chinese stuff, which falls to bits and is probably recycled plastic. Electronic goods seem ok, but a lot of other products are not worth the money.

I think they are all using it as an excuse to hike prices Nerys, happening here big time as well, (eg some items have gone up 20-30% or more in some cases. The material price of building a house here has gone up as much as 50% and builders are having to stop work due to lack of supplies. They will no longer give a firm price on a build, as material prices go up every time a ship comes in.

Hello everyone!
It's like that everywhere! Here in Switzerland, a customs surcharge is added to the purchase price, which is really cheeky!
That's why I usually combine shopping in Germany / France or Italy with a motorcycle trip lasting several days. Most of the time the weather is right too. . .that's how it is done! All facts, your posts are correct!
Wait and see, at some point the tables will turn and national specialists will be in demand again, even if the price is a little higher.
Look positively ahead, hobbyist greetings your Michel-Claude
👍😎👍😊
PS: 3D printers are already cheap. But please buy middle class here as well and if someone can teach me what these devices are about, report it! Personal experiences are wanted here and really welcome!

I rarely buy from Ebay/direct from China (and only if I can't get anywhere else) and in the main use established UK based suppliers but where do you think they get a lot of their stock from!

As has been said many times you can't buy stuff made in the UK even if you wanted to which is a real pity.

I'm not trying to alter the direction of this thread, but have you noticed how supermarket prices have risen, it seems that every time we go shopping, prices have risen . Just a few coppers, but practically weekly. I'm beginning to think that greed has taken over from increased production , shipping or raw material costs.

Not sure what parts are not available as I have not found any shortages for my requirements. True, costs have increased mainly due to the COVID restrictions disrupting commerce. Then there was that large container ship accident in the Suez Canal. It was reported to be carrying lots of Chinese goods destined for Europe, and that certainly did disrupt the supply chain adding to shortages and increased costs.
UK suppliers have stocks of most model supplies so perhaps we need to look closer to home when sourcing our model bits.
It is also good to see that Model shows are beginning to reappear and will hopefully provide a good source for our modelling requirements.

A few months ago I thought there might be problems with supplies coming from China, nevermind price increases, so I stocked up on the ESCs and a couple more motors to cover my current builds and three future ones. Glad I did.

Almost every time you buy something on Ali Express, the price has gone up. Thought I'd buy another motor for my jet project, but check out the increase since I bought the last one ! That's not forgetting they are going on holiday today and the customers who have just bought stuff, have to wait another 7 days minimum on top of the usual month or twos shipping time. Just ordered some cheap pumps (water😁) and there was a 14 day delay before they even shipped them. Probably haven't got them in 'stock' and have to go out and buy them.

A lot of people on Ali Exp are just everyday people/students etc selling from home, and quite often advertise stuff they don't have. They wait for an order and go out to the electronics supermarket and buy the item, (why you have a weeks delay before they are sent sometimes)

Look for sellers with good ratings - above 95%, -(hover over the ratings to see) as most of those are reliable. If you find a good one, stick with them. I buy a lot of boat bits from Tilkiea Model Store on Ali Exp and find them pretty good. Just received my latest jet unit in 6 days which is a record. Quite often you will pay for better shipping for an item from a seller , but the cheap buggers will send it a cheaper way, so there is that to watch out for as well. Paying for better shipping does not guarantee faster shipping, could even be slower than free shipping (which is rapidly disappearing as well).

Since coming out of the EU, in Britain things are either out of sock, in short supply, or no-longer available, I know so may people with problems getting parts for their car, wanting to buy a new lorry, but cannot get the specification (with security camera etc) .

A Motorbike dealership with 5 branches over the south of Britain that has no new motorbikes to sell, cannot get them!

Farmers cannot get livestock vehicles, for love nor money.

The Government now Tax many imports from the EU causing higher prices to us all.

Model boat parts Chinese, I recently brought 2 jet drives a £22.00 each and two 3650 1200kv at £10 each mid September 2022 total =£64.00
Two weeks later the jets were £27 each x2 and the motors were £30 each, total =£114

If you need /want something buy it asap or pay more later.
Or just save your money to pay your electricity bill.😂⚡

So true Nerys, I have asked a couple of local model shops about stocking model boat stuff only to be told that they can't afford to stock it.
It appears only specialist shops stock items, but general modelling stockists avoid marine modelling items apart from the odd plastic kit.
It's all going online, but I prefer to see the goods before purchasing whenever possible.
Cheers Colin.

We have found the same thing, almost anything you want is unavailable, even if it is on order from UK suppliers. I have also noticed a number of sharp price increases. A few months ago, for instance, I bought a Chinese model tug on Ebay, it was about £67. Then it disappeared from the listings, only to reappear a few days ago at £267.
Cheers,
Nerys

Hi chaps not been on line or doing much boating have had my house completely rewired, The repairs to the walls.ceilings and floorboards have taken up a lot of my hobby time.
Still got back to it this week then went on line to several well known chinese model part suppliers to aquire a part or two.
Dont know if anybody else is having the same trouble. its like everthing you want to order is either out of stock or they dont send it to that country or address. Tried Hobbyking, banggood and alibaba, all message the same thing not availiable. just to see if it was just on hobbyparts l tried to buy some racy underwear and some childrens toys nope got the same answer not availiable. I wonder if they have withdrawn dealing with the UK untill our pound settles down. stay safe you lot Jim dogge.
your thoughts chaps
