HI Colin
I suspect you will have to remove the rudder to get at the prop shaft. I agree with Alan on how to remove the old shaft but the rudder will have to go first.
If you are removing the shaft I would fit a whole new assembly and you can solder an oiling tube in place before fitting. Simple holes in the tube have never worked well for me and let more water in than oiled the shaft.
Not sure why you want to fit an oiler? Judging from your pics its of an age when brass bearings and stainless steel were used so it shouldn't rust and fresh (non saline) water will lubricate the bearings.
Could you drill a hole in the bulkhead behind the motor? Doesn't seem to have any structural purpose and a small hole would let you push/pull the shaft out of the prop tube and fit your oiler block. 😀

Alan. Looking at the prop where the the rudder comes down there is not enough room to get the prop or the shaft out,I wanted to get the prop shaft out of the tube so I could drill the tube and put an oiler block in,but you cannot get anything out because of the rudder.

HI Colin, A lot depends on how well the prop tube has been glued in. I would think the first thing to do is to remove with a dremel as much of the fixing stuff as possible, then make the model solid and give the tube a hard and sharp tap from the outside, knocking the tube into the boat, if this loosens the tube you should be able to work it out with a pair of pliers. if this does not work, then get a pair of mole grips on the tube and twist, knock twist, knock twist. The bu**er still wont shift, you will have to make a mess, get a small drill bit (say 2mm) and drill around the tube from the outside until it shifts.
fit new tube, use P38 to make good your mess on the outside and Araldite on the inside to fix and waterproof.
Well thats how I would attempt the task.

HI Alan. See what you mean now with the number 2 I will try and keep you updated

That lot sounds Ok. There is what looks like a number two on the bulkhead where the prop shaft comes through, that's where I would put the servo.

HI Alan. Still a bit of a novice especially at the building, built a model slipway envoy about 3 years ago but thats it,I have already got the kit for it got it from cornwall models today, the motor is mfa 540, mtroniks esc, and universal joint, when you photo marked 2 do you mean the second one of the pictures

Well done Colin.
Right, so lets start with the rudder, I suggest that you remove the tiller arm and and either make a longer one or fit a bought one, get a standard servo with an arm fitted, make a thin plywood L shaped bracket with a cut-out on the top to take the servo, the bracket can then be bolted or glued to that frame that is marked 2 on your photo, there should be enough depth for the servo there. When fitted the hole in the servo arm should be in-line with the hole in the tiller arm. I don't know what experience you have, but if you are not sure, do the above, dry fit it, take a photo and post. Suggest that you source a 555 motor for your boat, plenty of power and low drain. The above is what I would do, other people my go about it a different way.

Hope this helps you. A trip to the Blackpool show this weekend would not go amiss for you

She looks OK to me but difficult to tell from a smallish pic. Having 'said' that, I'm one of these fellows who hates to see a working ship all bright and shiny like "Daddy's yacht" and so after doing all the finishing stuff and smarting up I then apply chafe and scuff marks, rust and chips and and the rest of the dings and bumps and oil stains that characterise a working ship to unsmarten it ;-)

Do you have a motor and battery pack?

Robin

Bingo Colin! :-) Looks good and well made and you have plenty room in there for all the necessary 'works'. Good luck and please keep us in the loop with progress.

He he he! Alan - you're soooo right there :-)
Colin. Have you tried Googling for St. Canute / Sct. Knud / Stockvik ? Or Billings St. Canute ?
Try some of these for ideas/pics of the Billings kit and the prototype:

You both got it in one, my wife had a go at this afternoon and that is the result, for some reason the download shows only 98% on most other downloads it does 100% whether that makes any difference I don't know.

PS. Can anyone delete that with the HelI on.

My take as well, Alan. Pic very small and undoubtedly a model helicopter.
#14

Mmmm looks like your having a bit of trouble there Colin, looks like some sort of a helicopter to me.
Just a thought, is there a local boat club near you?

Thought it might be around those dimensions. Far too small for the sort of waters we have to 'sail' in but I did make a Billings Zwarte Zee (similar dimensions to the Canute) and fit this out with drive and R/c but it's a tight squeeze!

To the left of the text is upload file, press this, look for photo on computer, highlight photo, press open and that's it.
Never tried it, so here is a pic of one of my boats, scratch built, plank on frame, working lights, radar and winch/trawl net

ps. The two B&W pics taken back in 1968/9 show Knud towing a youngster in a half 44 gal oil drum and another of a youngster on an inflatable LiLo. On another occasion I spent a few happy hours shunting floating telegraph poles from one side of our local dam to the other - yep! She has ample power!

What size is your model, Colin?
About 45 years ago I came across some small scale drawings of Sct Knud (St. Canute) in (I think) Ships Monthly and decided to make a 1:32 scale model. Plank-on-frame with GRP sheathing. Well, she still goes well on the same old 6V Pittman motor (though I had to rebuild the 2:1 gearbox once) driving a self-made scale prop. Steering is via chain to a rudder quadrant as per prototype! A few years ago I fitted LED lights with switching to give: internal, internal plus nav, and nav plus working!
I'll try to post some pics.

HI Alan. I bought this model off a guy yesterday who built it for display,I want to turn it it into a RC model,he did not have the build instructions,so I would like some advise as how to go about turning it into a rc model,I did not know if there was anyone on the forum who had built it, and could tell me where they put the Ie servo, motor, esc.

What's the problem Colin, it looks like a nice little tug, plank on frame, probably best built upside down on a building board.
