The London Model Engineering Exhibition

Thanks Robbob. I thought I recognised a Bella. The second model I ever built was a Bella, I rigged her with the supplied Bermudan rig, but I thought at the time that it would be interesting to build another with gaff rig. I night get round to doing it sometime, but apart from the 1/24 Thames barge I'm working on, I have several boats to finish or restore sitting around waiting to be done and a couple of other versions of Thames barges I'd like to do, all with failing health. So. who knows.

Seasons greetings and all that.

Hi Nerys.
As promised & after some investigation...🤓
Yes, it is an Aeronaut Bella with a gaff rig.
"The sailing yacht ‘Bella’ is a kit from the German manufacturer Aero-Naut Modellbau GmbH. It is built from laser cut parts and is very straightforward to build. The original kit is a Bermudan sloop (triangular mainsail and single foresail) but I have made this a gaff rigged version and added a bowsprit and second foresail. This type of sail configuration works well. She has sail and rudder control via 2-channel radio control."

She belongs to our club Secretary, who tells there could be an article on changing the sails on the Bella to gaff rig appearing in Model Boats magazine soon.

The schooner belongs to another member, she is a slightly larger version of Lilla Dan (Billings kit) on a Graupner Elke fishing boat hull.

Kind Regards.😊
Robbob.

Hi Nerys.
Now I can't give you an immediate answer to any of those questions I'm afraid, but what I can do is speak to the club members who's boats they are when we next meet.
Meanwhile have a fantastic Christmas & New Year.☃😁

Nice display. Is the gaff cutter on the stand an Aeronaut Bella that's been given a gaff rig instead of the original Bermudan? Interested in the schooner too, is she a model of a real ship?
